Hey guys,

I'm sure just like many of you I am trying to make my college decision. A couple days ago I received an email from UT and was shocked to see that they had revised my financial aid reward. My loan had been replaced with a tuition exemption along with a $1,000 scholarship. Im just trying to figure out what exactly it is that I was given, how prestigious is it, how many people get this? Kind of still in shock. Thanks in advance.

It says that -- "The student may receive a waiver of nonresident tuition for the period of time covered by the scholarship, not to exceed 12 months." What happens after that?

You have to re-qualify I understand that. I've been told I have to maintain a 3.5 GPA and reapply for FAFSA and I'll get it again

The tuition exemption is only valid as long as you keep the $1000 scholarship as well. But even if you do keep it it does not guarantee you keeping the tuition exemption. I am hoping for one, but I feel like they may all already be taken. I was told that I may receive one for a single semester if engineering college is allocated more and I decide to attend UT, but I was also told that this exemption would most likely only last for one year.

Really? That's very interesting. I know they guarantee 1 full year with the one I got and they make it seem as if you fulfill their guidelines that you most likely will get it the following years. My EFC is 0 which most likely helped the process, we may be two separate cases, but I hope they give you what you're looking for I've heard its an amazing place!

Congratulations! That is very rare. A woman at UT told me that the school of engineering has only 7 or 8 OOS waivers to offer, TOTAL, freshman through senior years. My son got a scholarship two years ago, but not a waiver.

Wow! I had no idea that this scholarship/exemption was that rare... That completely changes the way that i looked at the renewal process though.

I would contact the financial aid office to see how difficult it would really be for you to renew it. We do not have all the information about them because none of us have received them haha. Again congratulations and good luck with your decision - I know it's been difficult for me! I am actually visiting UT next week to try and finally come to a conclusion.
