Top 10% Automatic Acceptance Rejection??

Hello

I have a friend who was ranked 54/534 at the end of first semester senior year. She was included in the cum laude breakfast for top 10% graduates.

Mathematically this is obviously not top 10% but she was told they round up to the nearest whole number.

We figured since our excellent(sarcasm) guidance office claimed she was top 10% and would be accepted to UT under the law she would.

Yesterday she got CAP'd.

I believe she is going to try to contact admissions today so obviously they will be able to provide a definitive answer, but does anyone know if they really do round up, meaning this was a mistake on UT's part, or was our guidance office incorrect?

Finally an answer to all this "CAP" business. I always wondered what it is.

Yea, UT doesn't do that...same with most schools. That really sucks that she's one spot out of top 10%, but then again the top 10% rule in general sucks.

I know

The worst part is our guidance office. They can be blamed for so many of the seniors troubles, especially the top students. I personally have missed out on some schoalrship oppurtunities due to their incompetence.

My friend had decided to go to Texas State long ago but when she found out she made the top 10% she decided she couldn't pass up the oppurtunity to try out UT. I completely understand that she didn't qualify for auto-accepance but I would just expect such a school in such a prestigious district to have their facts straight. O well..

She's decided to go to Texas State and then transfer to A&M
(cringes), and never think about UT again lol.
