Transexuals in Texas? Really?

LogicWarriorLogicWarrior - Posts: 3,670 Senior Member
I've heard (but not seen any statistics) that there were a few transexuals at UT Austin as well as a large amount of gays and lesbians. This seems mind-boggling, as Texas is probably one of the most conservative states in the nation. Are they really tolerated?

Texas has over 24 million people. Do you really think every single one of them is conservative?

I can't believe that anyone would be "mind-boggled" that one of the largest states in the US happens to have some diversity.

Genetics do not know state boundaries. The gay gene exists in Texas just like everywhere else. If you are smart enough to get in to UT, you should not have asked this question.

Harris County (one of the largest counties in Houston) voted mostly democratic in the 08 elections.
Not everyone is conservative. (especially not me :D)

Yes, we are "tolerated" here in TX.

haha, this question really makes me laugh...there's some statistic out there that like around 70% of college students consider themselves liberal. Come on now, you can't seriously have been "mind-boggled" by this.

    Danes in Texas? Really?

I've heard (but not seen any statistics) that there are Danish people at UT Austin as well as a large number of Norwegians and Swedes, especially in the Swedish language program. This seems mind-boggling, as Texas is probably one of the most conservative states in the nation. Are people from Denmark really tolerated?

    :D

No, we sent all the Danes off to camps years ago.

UT is pretty much 50/50 liberal and conservative...the liberals are just louder!

Honestly, I considered myself to be a liberal before I got to UT, but the liberals here scare the crap out of me...I've changed to just saying I'm a Democrat.

I didn't know about Leslie Cochran, but I knew about the red thong bicycle guy. My daughter's friend just crossed Guadalupe in the crosswalk with him and his bike last week. She said he did not look very comfortable. Hmmm. I would think that red thong would be uncomfortable even if you were not sitting on a bike seat. I searched on bike thong Austin and found this:
Does anyone know the man with the red thong in Austin -- not Leslie? - Yahoo! Answers

I have spent my share of time in Circle C and have not run across -- thank you, Jesus -- the red thong guy.

MM2K, ask your dd to get you a Leslie refrigerator magnet set for your birthday! Of course, I think you can order them online yourself, but not as fun.

I've seen the thong guys several times in the Whole Foods area at 6th and Lamar. If you want to see him, he seems to be riding by around 5ish in the afternoon.

It's all part of Will Wynn's conspiracy to Keep Austin Weird...I guess it's Lee's conspiracy now.
