No you can submit the applications with the essay spots having just a space typed in, then use bealonghorn to submit complete ones,
And the prompts change each year, so I would make sure it's the 2009-2010 app before starting them.

The 2010 fall Texas Common application has the correct essay topics, they are the same ones that are posted on Be a Longhorn.

so what dorms are you guys going to pick? im stuck between the honors dorms or Castillon. Im worried that i wont meet as many people or loose the dorm experience if i do Castillion versus the on campus dorms.

The Castillian is a dorm run by a private company because UT only has roughly 7000 beds...so it is a dorm with RAs, meal plan, and all that other stuff...

My son is going to live in Towers. His brother did 2 years ago, and really enjoyed it, so he didn't apply for on campus housing.

It's not really nicer. It's the same.
I'm in The Castilian for the summer and it is basically just like my room was in Kinsolvng except there is a sink in the room. I like the layout of furniture better and the wireless internet is nice but that's about it. I wouldn't live here for the fall, though.
There really isn't any security though. Anyone can go to any floor. The Castilian, Austin, TX, University of Texas, dormitory and residence hall, UT student housing |

The rooms at Towers are nicer than normal dorms, and a lot more expensive. The exteriors are crap. Really no other way to put it. The security pretends like they care what the kids are doing (actually I haven't been there since Lynnette got fired so I have no idea what it's like now), but traditionally they simply acted like they cared what you did while letting you carry on with whatever you were doing.
Castillian also has the features of a normal dorm, but is somewhat less crappy and less expensive, and a little less of a party atmosphere. The elevators are ridiculously slow though. I've never seen any semblance of security there whatsoever.
Dobie is pretty nice. They just renovated the exteriors. The rooms are nice enough, but dated. It's probably in between Towers and Castillian on the party scene. You have to check guests in here but that's all they really care about.
On campus dorms are more strict about visitors, quiet hours, substances, etc. They are usually less nice and more fucntional, and usually cheaper. That's really the only difference.

I just received my roommate notification letter and am assigned room 1722 @ Castilian. Do you know which floor is it on ..Since you said elevators are ridiculously slow, I am just concerned how long will it take it to get down if I am running late (not looking for exact seconds but just an idea).
Also, I heard good & bad things about Dobie although it doesn't really matter much to me now..But I thought I'd share this blog with you guys..for some reason, I found it a little funny yet serious by the author.
"A Letter from My ****ty Dorm
By Mike Faerber on June 14th, 2006 | Share this | Comments (4)
The following is an email received from my sophomore year dorm (what the hell was I thinking, I know) with added jabby-style insults added in RED.
Dear Michael,
What?
Thank you for you interest in Dobie Center.
Um, Interest? What interest are you refering too? Oh right, you must mean the enormous financing cost that will be piled on top of my other student loans.
We are following up on your inquiry for student housing this upcoming August.
HAHAHAHA, nice try, but you can't fool me twice. P.S. if you're going to lie, make sure it's about something I know I didn't do... like inquire about living in a dorm I hated.
Our luxury student housing community offers the finest amenities and incredible location near campus.
Luxury? Really? I seem to remember lots of grays in the decor. I will concede that the location was situated rather conveniently in the darkest pits of fiery hell. And on a side note. You should repair your finest amenities before someone else catches God-this-place-sucks Fever. It's a real health risk that the real estate community is facing today.
We hope our top-of-the-line fitness center and full-service dining fits your needs.
Funny, It would have been better if your fitness center was full service and your dining top-of-the-line (especially since neither was either). I'm not saying they were bad. But let's cut out the middle men and make your food run on the treadmill. I'll be in my luxurious room, paradoxically fat on food I hate.
Additionally, we offer a student-oriented mall for all of your shopping and entertainment needs.
Apparently "student-oriented" also means "hobo-oriented." But you're right, it was quite entertaining walking by the army recruitment store... really get into the action like never before. 4-D! Also things like clothes and "stuff you'd actually buy" are more like shopping wants rather than needs, so you're spot on there.
Feel free to stop by for a tour or call us and thank you for your interest.
Yeah, we should you know hang sometime. I'll bring the rope.
Sincerely,
Todd Engstrom
General Manager 4 Life
p.s. For your convience visit [their website] for pictures and more information on our community situated across the street from campus. Here's some examples of what Dobie Center has to offer:
-private and shared accomidations-indevidual lease (we keep the accomidation prices low by misspelling them)
-fully furnished accomidations-weekly housekeeping (Fully furnished with no lighting in the living room, - weekly awkward slaves who don't want to be there as much as you don't want them to)
-15 feet from campus (15 feet from Suck... and Suck is trying to increase the gap)
-and more (much less)."

Your post is completely irrelevant to the thread in question, but room 1722 is going to be on the 17th floor. The rooms in the Castillian are above the parking garage.

Question: Do you have to submit the normal UT app before you can get to the honor application?

Yes ponder, check the box that says 'Are you interested in the honor program' and the option will be available afterwards.

Right now, with the 10% law its hard for anyone out of state or not in the to 10% to get in to UT, but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen, its just harder...
