I disagree. I think it is a bit easier for OOS than instate. Because of the 10% rule for instate, I think they have it harder. My D got in with a 3.6 gpa and 27 act as an OOS applicant. She got in to the communication school. Some schools are easier than others. Business and Engineering are really hard. Last year they took more OOS applicants. No one knows how many this year. I have been told that Texas wants to increase its national reputation. They also like the higher tuition for OOS> If that continues, then they might continue to admit more. Not many people apply form out of state. Therefore, the odds are better than you might imagine. Also, OOS admission is more holistic., For instate it is based solely on Rank.

UT McCombs School of Business! Very exciting ...and lots of kids at our school had their acceptance notices posted on the website yesterday. Good look everyone!
P.S. Does anyone know if it matters if you pay your $300 housing now as far as dorm choice...or is your place in the queue based on the $50 original housing application?

windowbob, your spot in the queue for housing is based on when you paid your $50 deposit

AG54,
May I say Congrats. I feel a kinship as you have been helpful and supportive to me in the past. Please send my best to your kid.
Midwestmom, I am sending good thoughts to you as well. Hope your family hears soon.
To the other recently accepted students, good going.

Oh wow, congrats. (New User!) Mine is still under review. I applied for the Mccombs Business but since I'm in the top 4.8% I won't get an answer until January. Good luck to the rest of you guys!

Thanks all! My son is definitely excited and glad the whole app thing is over. Now he can just focus on the rest of senior year, and hopefully not get caught by the senioritis bug!
moochi - welcome! And, you might hear back before then, getting it in early helps...

I assume your son is applying as a Freshman? If yes, here is the link to the essays description. Essays | Freshmen | Be a Longhorn
Transfer applications are pretty similar, but one of the personal essays becomes a Statement of Purpose. In the event he's a transfer, here's that link too. Essays | Transfer | Be a Longhorn |
