Freshman Applicants - Fall 2010

So this will probably be frowned upon by some of the more militant members of these forums, but I thought I'd create a thread for those of us who are beginning to apply to UT for the fall of 2010 (since the application is open as of, well, today, August 1. I'm beginning to get a bit restless. I think I have early-onset senioritis). What makes you consider UT? What school do you plan to apply to, et cetera?

Although I am not beginning to apply, I will be beginning this fall. I choose UT because of the combination of low tuition + great education + lots of fun. I chose business because the school was highly ranked in my state of Texas.

Isn't ApplyTexas the only way to do it?

Yes, applytexas is the only way to apply to UT.

Advice: apply early! (especially if you are top 10%). It feels great to have an acceptance (and quite a good one if I may add) under your belt early in first semester of your senior year!

more advice, don't forget to bug the hell out of your counsellors, especially if they're anything like mine were...three guys at my school who were in the top ten percent weren't able to be admitted because the counsellors didn't turn their paperwork in on time (one day late) as a result all three are headed to UTSA and hope to transfer in the spring or next fall...

My son got up early Saturday morning and filled out his application and pressed submit!! He had finished his essays last week, went up to the school and had his transcripts sent, and has had both his ACT and SAT 2 (for math readiness) sent. SO, now it is a waiting game to see how quickly he hears back.

Cockrell School of Engineering here as well.

This is going to be his one and only application, so we're done!!! (loving that top 10% hasn't changed yet!!)

^^ Wow! Impressive. Let us know how soon he hears back.

I'm stuck on Essay A. I just don't know how to get myself started - I want to write something original and interesting, but the topic is just so stuffy and TAKS-like (this person is important to me because of reason A, reason B, and reason C. In this essay I have told you about this person, who is important to me because of reasons A, B, and C). The good news is that I'll probably use my Essay B for the Common App is well. Unfortunately though, I won't be submitting my app until after I get my SAT scores back in October.

a bit of warning, don't write your essay all taks like...it'll only hurt you in the long run, seriously...

Just checked "Status Check" on the UT website. They have recieved all the information they need to make a decision, and it will be posted as soon as it is made.

SOOOO exciting!!

On the section of the ApplyTexas application that deals with test scores, are you able to indicate future test dates? (I would just get to it myself, but there's some information that I need to ask my parents about, and you can't just move around freely within the application, so)

I don't think there was a place to put future dates, but I'm not sure, my son filled it out and I just kind of supervised. Sorry!

Just checked and everything for basic admission (top 10) is good to go. Can't believe GC sent transcript!

I took the Math Subject Test and then saw some depts are going with ALEKS. So, should I still send in the Math scores or not?
