I'm wondering if there are GOOD and AUTHENTIC Asian restaurants and markets around campus.

Are there any:
- China-town supermarkets?
- Korea-town supermarkets?
- Japanese restaurants with good sushi?
- Thai restaurants?
- Chinese restaurants, any dim sum?
- Szechuan restaurants?
- Indian restaurants with good tikka masala?
- Vietnamese restaurants with good pho?
- Korean BBQ places?

I can't live without authentic Asian food, I'd die if I had to eat American & Mexican food everyday.

Please don't name restaurants that are Asian-American like Panda Express, PF Chang's, Pei Wei or anything... those types of restaurants are gross.

Supermarket-wise I'm only familiar with MT Supermarket, but they are huge and I used to shop there fairly regularly when I worked in the area:

They are way north of campus, though, so I'm not sure what your transportation situation will be like.

I honestly don't have much to say about the restaurants around campus - my experience is limited and what I have had I haven't been impressed with. I'd hate to give you recs for places too far outside your travel area, but if you think you'll be venturing out around town, PM me and I'd be happy to share my faves as well as some of the places I'd try to avoid. I've VERY picky about my Asian food so I'm the same as you when someone recommends an Americanized restaurant like PF Chang's, etc. I haven't been terribly impressed with the cuisine in Austin (I grew up in Nor Cal and I know my way around Chinatown in SF better than I probably do my hometown lol) but there are some diamonds in the ruff. There is a lot of great food in Austin, not just Asian, but man is there some crap, too. lol

Dang it, I really hope it's cold tomorrow, because now I'm craving some chicken pho.

Yeah, MT Supermarket is HUGE and awesome. They have tons of stuff there. I believe that they have some pre-packaged foods and stuff that you can heat up in the microwave, if you live in the dorms.

Last time I was there (this weekend), I think I saw the 1L bus go near there? I know that there are some bus stops near the store, but I'm not sure if they require transfers to get to. Definitely use Google Maps or the Capital Metro trip planners to find out.

So are most of the good places around the MT Supermarket?

I'm willing to travel 15 minutes btw. As long as there's a bus around.

There are some good places in that shopping center, but the names escape me since I don't eat there frequently, just used to shop to cook at home. The Clay Pit is pretty good Indian food and it's downtown, not too far from campus (I prefer Sarovar, but not sure if a bus will run you up there).

The MT supermarket is soooo far...30 mins on the 1L bus from co-op to there..

Yikes that bad? I've never used the bus system in town so I'm unfortunately not familiar with travel times. leeznon - any chance you'll know someone with a car? maybe they'd be willing to take you from time to time in exchange for gas or a homecooked meal?
