| A couple of questions about BeALonghorn
Is there anything you can do to change wrong information? When I click on "Application Status," this page comes up that shows my information, and my name is wrong (it says "Jr." after my name - dunno how that happened) and by "Residency for tuition," it says "Nonresident" (I am a resident). I just submitted my application yesterday, so it hasn't come through yet. I sent an email to admissions a few days ago when I first noticed that some of my information was wrong, and the person that replied just said that it takes a couple of business days for the application to process (which didn't even address my question).
I'm just a little concerned that my application won't come through since these things are wrong... Thanks for any help...

I would call and get it fixed. The residency thing is too big to let it go and hope it will work out in the end. Call and speak to someone until it is fixed. That is my opinion anyway.

I agree, call and try to change it, and you can always submit a letter to accompany your application to notify the adcom, assuming the office thinks you need to. But if it's any consolation, I had noticed an error on my app after the fact as well, and when I called to have it changed or inquire if I should cancel and resubmit they said not to worry, that my transcripts would be an accurate reflection of the situation.

Thanks to both of you... I'm going to have to get over my horrible phobia of talking to people over the phone and call tomorrow... I guess it's just that I made a few errors when I was making my UTEID. I made it during the middle of my junior year and I was being sort of rushed while doing it. I think everything's all right with my actual application, though... *sigh*

Ugh, I was frazzled and I don't think I was being clear with my original post... there's no problem with my application, just the stuff associated with my UTEID... I haven't gotten a chance to call yet, but I'm hoping some things will get worked out this afternoon when I do...

I just called the admissions department... I was on hold for a while (which was understandable - I actually quite enjoyed whatever Bach sinfonia they had as call-waiting music) and then this woman answered. She was extremely rude, sarcastic and condescending, and, most importantly, not helpful (and in fact made me worry even more). It's almost like she didn't understand why I was concerned, and she made me feel like an intrusive idiot. I felt like I was inconveniencing her by expecting her to do her job and answer my questions. Some samples from our incredibly productive, enlightening conversation:
"Look, if you're not going to speak clearly, I might as well hang up."
"Well, OBVIOUSLY. (capitalized for emphasis) Don't you have a computer with internet access on it? (yes, she said this!) It says that right there on the site that it takes a couple of days to process." - when I was explaining that my application hasn't been received yet but I wanted to make sure that it was going to
"Well, honey (NO! that's one of my biggest pet peeves), how do you expect me to help you if we haven't received your application yet?"
"It's never, ever a good idea to wait only a few weeks before the due date for something like this!" Yes, but I did, and it's especially urgent now so stop patronizing me and help me!
Then I said "sorry" like 10 times because she sounded really angry, and then she just kind of humphed and hung up the phone, and that was the end of it. Click, there went my chances of being able to go to UT.
Grrr... my heart is pounding right now. I understand that they're swamped right now since application season is drawing to a close, but what ever happened to common courtesy? I'm not about to start ranting about how impolite people at UT are, because the first time I called, I got this guy who was very kind but didn't understand my question and as a result hastily transferred me (to someone that didn't even end up answering). Anyway, she basically told me to give it some time and that my application information will "override" the stuff on UTDirect (which I don't even understand - how will they even associate my app with my UTEID if my name isn't correct?).
I once read this book that said that in situations like this, you should consider the other person's circumstances... like, for example, maybe she's just been through a nasty divorce and her ex is stiffing her on child support, or she stubbed her toe right before she picked up the phone, or maybe she was having a painful flareup of some sort... I'm so frustrated about everything right now. Maybe I should call again tomorrow, but this definitely didn't help my fear of talking on phones.

Send an email to your admissions counselor. You won't be interrupted in an email and it provides proof that you contacted them with the correction prior to the deadline.
Also, although UT doesn't generally use SSNs, your ApplyTexas, high school transcript, and test scores all do, so they really will be able to match things up -it might just take a little longer.

Aaaahhhhhhhh yes, I just got an email saying that they've received my application, and it did "override" everything on UTDirect, just like that hateful witch told me over the phone. I guess sometimes the best option really is to just sit back and have faith in the machine. Thanks to all.

don't beat yourself up - this is something that's important to you, it's understandable that you were concerned and needed reassurance. no matter how busy the office was or how inane/redundant the question, the woman you spoke to should have been more helpful and pleasant.
