Access UVA and financial aid

I've been classified as out-of-state, and I'm wondering about Access UVA. I've gone to their website a few times, and I just saw it featured in a television ad, which makes me think it must be pretty good if they're going to spend the money advertising it.

The problem is I don't know how financial aid works, really. I certainly can't afford to pay $30,000/yr but I really want to attend UVA. I'm independent of my parents, but under 24 so they expect my parents to make a significant financial contribution (even though they're middle class).

I could sit out a year and wait for residency to kick in, but I am a non-traditional student and I need to get my degree soon.

Any thoughts from people who've benefited from Access UVA or other financial aid programs?

I heard that Access UVa was so successful that other universities are looking to implement their own version.

Call them up and tell them your situation. They will hopefully give you some advice. It is better to ask them who actually know about the program than people on this forum.
