FYI - bus service

All service between the Chemistry Building and the Chapel is suspended because VDOT banned buses on the McCormick rd bridge earlier this week. See UTS 411: E-Mail Alerts, Parking & Transportation, U.Va. The Trolley completely avoids UVA - doesn't even service Chemistry anymore. Goes straight on Alderman rd over to Ivy Rd and then goes around to the rotunda and corner that way.
This might affect your commute time from places like Hereford/Copeley. They might figure out a better solution for the fall but this is what they're doing now.
This was a fun surprise yesterday on my trek in to grounds from JPJ, to say the least...

Is something wrong structurally with the bridge?

You have to wonder how such an important bridge was allowed to get so bad. I imagine Va. DOT has full responsibility for it, including regular inspections. I wonder if there could be a temporary shift to multiple smaller buses.

I did see the trolley dropping/picking up students at the stadium this morning, but I must confess, I don't know what route it was taking. UTS did a great job of shuttling us around for orientation the past two days. Dean Grove joked about how it seems every summer construction crews tear down and rebuild UVA. I wonder if Newcomb Hall will ever be finished...it seems like that has been under construction forever (along with the bridge at JPA).

There was emergency construction a month ago to prevent debris from falling on cars underneath!!!! A bus at 13 tons is way too much to drive over the bridge, and I'm surprised they're letting cars drive over it still.

This question is directed towards 30 years of UVa alums: Has anyone ever known a time when Newcomb was not under reconstruction? I think the U. has been trying to emulate Jefferson's Monticello - he was always tearing down and rebuilding parts of it.
