question about sat math vs. verbal

i've been looking at a bunch of different sources, some from the posts on here, about the avg. sat scores at UVA and i'm wondering about mine..
i have a 720 verbal but a 580 math. my math seems about 50 pts. below the norm and my verbal about 50 pts. above (i also have a 720 writing and an 11 essay)... in the eyes of admissions... do you think this will put me right about average? or do you think theyll see me as too low in math and not meeting the university's standards?

oh and one more thing... i expressed interest in majoring in an English field.. will this have any weight in the decision since i'm so much better at English?

You're fine. I wouldn't worry too much if I were you. A friend of mine got 720m/530v and was accepted to the engineering school.

my situation is very similar. i got a 750 verbal, 560 math, 690 writing on my first try in december. i will be re-taking them in may (i am a junior)

however, i will be applying from out of state. what would you say about my chances?

OOS tends to be alot harder, and that 560 will in no way look good. The Verbal score is fantastic, so since ur a junior I would just recommend that you prep for math. Raising the Math score is actually proven to be the easiest, since alot of ppl tend to overlook the actual question. The SAT Math as you probably are aware of will say something like what is 2x instead of x. Just learn the SAT "tricks" and Im sure you will do good.
