| Why UVA is the best! My sister is a 4th year at UVA and she recently found this quote from ESPN magazine! Thought some of you would like to read this.
"Just about every other school in Virginia likes to bash UVA kids for
being 'pretentious' and 'snobs.' In other words, they get called out for
thinking they're better than everyone else. Well, if you went to the
school in Virginia with the most stringent admissions requirements, best
overall athletic program, most beautiful campus and coeds, most
successful and famous alumni, the most storied social scene, was founded
by Thomas Jefferson, and all that happened to be in what was voted the
#1 city to live in America, well you'd think you were the **** too."
- ESPN's review of college campuses. |

| A lot of that is true. It doesn't have the most competitive admissions requirements, but oh well. And who cares what people at other schools in VA think? The only other good ones are W&M, Richmond, and W&L. The rest suck. |

| ^^ Good thing you mentioned UR, otherwise I would have had to ____ you. UR is the only school I've been accepted to thus far. Still waiting to hear from UVA but at the rate I'm going, it's not looking so good. |

| UR probably isn't as good as the other three I mentioned, but it's still a fine school with a great campus. My grandfather attended Richmond as an undergraduate when he got back from WW2. My grandparents still live within a few minutes of the campus in a very beautiful neighborhood. |

| I agree -- not ranked nearly as high as UVA or W & L -- won't argue with you on that one. |

| Most people would pick UVA.
UVA is seen as being better (and is) and probably has a little bit more going on socially. Not that Richmond isn't a great school, but it's a solid notch below UVA. This isn't like comparing UVA and W&M. It's more like comparing UVA and MIT (although we'll pretend that MIT has a social aspect and more than a handful of "normal" students.) |

| And the people who pick UR over UVA do so because of the smaller size and what else? |

| And nothing, really, besides maybe scholarship money. UVA is generally the cheaper of the two and takes a higher cut of students than Richmond. The smaller size of Richmond isn't as big of an advantage as you'd think, either.
However, I will say that they're both excellent options and you should pick whichever makes you happiest. |

| ^^ Why is the smaller size of UR not that big of an advantage? Or are you saying that it's smaller size doesn't make up for the overall advantages of going to UVA? |

| I'm saying that UVA is larger, but it doesn't feel like a giant school. It's a midsized public university with a large endowment. "Small" isn't always an advantage. It's just something different. |

| a decision between UVa and University of Richmond is a no brainer.
UVa easily wins. |
