I am african american male and I go to a Catholic Private school in D.C.

I live in Maryland

SAT 2000 (660 M, 690V, 650W)

Just so you know...4 years of religion is required in my school

Freshman (hardest courseload) 3.928 uw (4.5 w)

He's got a 3.6 at what I'm presuming to be a good private school in DC. His SAT score is very good. And he's black. In the words of George Tenet, I'd say it's a slam dunk.

theres that statistic that im not going to go find again - its been around here for so longs im sure you can find it on the boards - 86% of black people who apply with over a 3.3 and 1100 on their sats get in. considering hes well over that i'm sure he's a slam dunk

Agreed. His odds are very good. If he doesn't get into UVA, he'll end up somewhere like Columbia or Duke anyway.

I live in and go to school in MD. I have a friend whos black, applied to UVAwith a slightly higher gpa and SAT score and he got waitlisted. But then again he got into all the ivies he applied to...so make what you can of that.

No one doubts your point, bo_bombers. People with great stats, from time to time, don't get in to schools. It happens. But it's been shown that black applicants do have a better chance of getting in, particularly if they have numbers that would have made them competitive as white or asian applicants. When people ask for chances on CC, I try to give it to them straight.
