So I thought I'd start a thread about all the good eats in C'ville, both for current and future students. We can post the name, cuisine, a bit about the place, and price range
I'll start by asking my main reason for this thread: I need a place to take my parents to (or, for them to take me) for my birthday in two weeks. Price range doesn't matter, we'd almost prefer on the higher end. Downtown Mall area is fine, or anywhere within a 10-15min drive of Grounds (basically, don't make it somewhere I could easily get lost trying to find)

I've been to Fleurie in the Dowtown area with my parents; it's high end French cuisine and we had a grand time. The service was wonderful. We dressed up a bit, men in jackets. I'd highly recommend it, but you will need reservations, particularly if planning to go on the weekend.
Michael's Bistro is my father's favorite spot on the corner due to the extensive beer selections, mostly European. Not a lot of younger students dine up there, so it's a bit more refined than some of the usual places of the corner, yet still very casual. If you sit near the window there will be nice views of the grassy hill leading up to the Rotunda. The view is a little obscured, but I still like it.

hey i live in cville so i know of some great places to eat....Downtown Grill and Hamilton's both on the dtown mall-very high-end, fancy resturants...great food..another resturaunt on the downtown mall is blue light grill, also very good and a little less expensive, but still high priced...i would reccomend these three mainly because they're nice and very good, and i also love the dtown mall and think it really captures cville...so those would be my choices

well I guess it's true what they say about uVA being elite. I certainly don't have money to eat at those places. But I like Five Guys.

I'm taking my son for a visit in a couple of weeks and my 12-year-old and 10-year-old girls will be with us. Do you have recommendations of family restaurants and places we should go off campus for my son to get a feel for what the area outside of campus is really like?

Shoe, if you want to stay on The Mall, I'd consider Ten (Japanese) or C&O (an institution here). A little closer to Grounds, though, is The Ivy Inn, which is one of my favorite places in town for a nice dinner.
Zinc, between The Corner and The Mall, has delicious, updated French food in a casual setting. The place used to be a gas station.

yea..i think im gonna go for the less expensive meals..all the time. That weekend topic about the food in charlottesville was awesome, especially the dumplings.

Check out this article about the dumpling shop back when it was just a little window. Though they've moved to York Place, the chalkboard is still on the wall next to the old shop.

<Powderpuff>: my parents actually just got back from Paris, so they're into the whole French food even more than they had been before =P Fleurie is in my top 4 right now, and it's just down to what kind of cuisine I want.
<Griffon>: You gave me too many choices! =P Downtown Grill and Hamilton's both look excellent, and I'm a huge fan of surf&turf but Hamilton's seems to have a great selection of everything. Of the two, which do you recommend? (PS- i'm a girl =) the name fools, but it's an old nickname)

<ChrisDonovan>: depending on how much you what to spend, there are a bunch of places off the top of my head that would be great for the family. Mellow is a great suggestion, as most kids love pizza, and they also have hogies/calzones/salads for the parents, plus much more "daring" pizza toppings than just the cheese/peps/sausage (jerk chicken, mushrooms galore, every veggie known, Jamaican pork, buffalo mozzarella, etc). Pizzas are priced as any normal pizza place, hogies are $8-12, salads $6-12, tons of beers on tap. College Inn on the Corner is moderately priced, and good Italian-type food good for everyone. If your kids are a tad explorative in foods, Basil on 14th St behind the Corner is good, a little pricier ($10-18 for entrees) and they have Med/Italian type food with anything from raviolis to pizzas to gyros to all sorts of pastas, could turn into a nice dinner. Is there anything specific you're looking for in niceness/price/food?

Thanks everyone for the suggestions It's my 20th birthday and my parents have taught me to eat well, so that's why I'm looking for higher end. But everyone should post whatever restaurant they suggest to anyone for whatever occasion
