Waitlist

Anyone have any "buzz" on what the situation really is this year? Rumor WAS that they may be taking more off the wait list this year without ED.....have not heard much either way.

no one knows until after may 1 when the admissions office sees how short they are from the target class size. if they get 3200 yesses then I wouldn't be to hopeful. If they only get 2900, then they could be making lots of offers to waitlisted students.

This article provides some insight concerning anticipated yield for UVa's 2012 class.

For Dean J

For dean J:
The article stated there will most likely be an increase in yield for in-state applicants. Previously you (dean J) wrote when taking applicants off the waiting-list, 2/3 of those taken off would be in-state. Maybe I read your post incorrectly(which is possible because I'm recalling it from memory), but did you mean if there is a deficit of instate applicants from that initial 2/3s, in-staters would be taken off accordingly to meet the quota? Please say 2/3 of those taken off the waiting list are instaters :'( . Otherwise, the chance of any instate applicant getting off the waiting list is almost impossible.

*Edit- never mind i read your post again...looks like I'm out of luck.
About how many instate apps have been taken off the waitlist in previous years?
Do you think any will get off this year?

You are remembering incorrectly. I did not say 2/3 of those taken off the waitlist would be in state. The state mandate does not apply to the number of students we take off the waitlist.

As you should have read on your waitlist FAQ sheet, there is no way of predicting how many students we will take off the waitlist based on previous years. I think many of you are over-analyzing at this point. We won't know anything about the waitlist until all the mail that was postmarked on May 1 arrives and is checked into the system.
