Would it be better if i try to change to hereford single from the mccormick single...given that I doesnt bother me that it looks like a jail or isnt social enough...also i am ready to take the bus if need be

If you'd like air conditioning and don't want a loft, sure, I bet they'd let you do that. You would probably make someone really happy too. I don't know that there's much difference in the rooms' sizes though, and you might appreciate being in Old Dorms. I don't think there's a "better" choice either way. You might consider switching with someone on this board though, housing would let you do that for sure (room swaps are fairly common).

Stay in old dorms, you don't want Hereford. Not having AC really isn't that bad.
