| Housing/Roommate Assignments- Available at Midnight?
To any rising second years and above-
If you can remember, were housing applications available at midnight on the particular date that the website states they will be or at some other time? Housing assignments will be available on July 2 (tomorrow), but I'm not sure if that's midnight or at some other point tomorrow. I do remember, though, that the application became available at midnight the day that the website said the applications would become available.

I'm pretty sure you'll have to go to virginia.edu/housing and look it up yourself

I'm in Humphreys in McCormick, the location is perfect, I also heard that some people got put on a waitlist for housing so your room may not be single SSK, but I'm not sure, just a possibility

You probably have one of the infamous stairwell singles. Don't bother bringing much for your room, it won't fit. My best friend was in one of those, her bed was lofted and she'd hit her head if she slept one way (ceiling sloped). But at least you have hallmates and a short walk to classes.

Metcalf! Is the sample double room on the Housing website the standard double room for Old Dorms, or does the size of the rooms vary?

i think my friend had her fridge her first year.
the bed was pre-lofted (there is NOT room for a bed and a desk in that room).
all of the rooms should be the same size, but i didn't live in old dorms, so there might be discrepancies if there are corner rooms, etc. it's basically big enough for your beds and desks, one mini fridge (tv on top), and... that's about it. fans in the window. the drawers under the bed are huge though (they're the same as the kind in brown college) - i fit all of my every day clothes and sheets in there (dressy clothes and sweatshirts go in closet or on 3m command hooks you should stick everywhere). is there still closet sharing in old dorms?? oh there also should be storage room above your closet for things like suitcases.

also, it should be noted that i am not trying to be pessimistic with respect to the size of your rooms, it is just that it is a huge upperclassmen joke to watch parents carry stuff up to the rooms and then be seen half an hour later carrying half of it back down because it does not fit. the drawers under the bed and the desk drawers provide a LOT of storage. new dorms is different, the bed doesn't have drawers under it so you need to get your own tubs to store things in. the rooms are slightly bigger (especially if you get a triple room with 2 people in it) but they are further away.
wrt the housing pictures: i think the storage in the old dorms rooms should be carefully measured - the metally ones in the corner can't be more than a foot wide, and the one in the boys room with the TV is guaranteed blocking access to the two drawers under the bed (same with the chair in the girls room). you'll use those drawers a lot so i would advise against blocking them with anything that can't be moved easily.
