Quite new. Construction finished in August of last year. Has AC and carpeting, amenities that many other dorms don't. Looks incredibly nice, as you can see here University of Virginia - Housing Division :: Kellogg House Photos.

It's hall style (think traditional dorms with one long corridor) which would be a con for me but can certainly be a pro for you.

Pros: SO NICE. It is hall style and it is brand new. There are little conference/study rooms and computers in the building.

Cons: very far away.

Really far away, but by far the nicest dorm. Lots of study spaces, lounges with HDTV, elevator, air conditioning.

db123, it's on alderman road/in the alderman dorm complex where many students are, so it really isn't that far away. Far by mccormick dorm standards, yes, but compared to hereford for example, not far at all.

It's far by Alderman standards, all the way at the top of the hill. It might not be Courtenay far, but it's still really far.

Being at the top of a hill is a pro for me. The view is nice!

Also when you become upperclassmen, you won't view Kellogg as very far at all, compared to the popular JPA / Corner apartments. Arguably closer to Central Grounds than the IRC or Lambeth.

Guys, I just went by Kellogg today on the trolley and I don't know WTH you mean that Kellogg is far by Alderman standards. I pass by within 2 minutes: Hereford, Gooch/Dillard, then like 5 different Alderman dorm blocks facing the street (not counting the ones further in), and then I see Kellogg up the hill. And what are only the Alderman dorms closer to Central Grounds than Kellogg? Tuttle, Watson, Webb among a couple of others -- the Echols dorms essentially. (And you can sprint from Webb/Watson to the chem building in under 2 minutes.)

Kellogg also has the AFC, and O-Hill pretty close by. And it's close enough to JPA that you don't have to walk too long to an apartment party...(or from one back home).

Did you happen to notice if Dobie/Balz had been knocked down yet?

Oh yes, I forgot about that, so I wasn't looking hard for it. (I could barely make out Kellogg since its view from Alderman is blocked by trees...) I'm taking another trip downtown today so maybe I can see.

There's significant construction everywhere though. If you haven't heard, many of the busses are on detour, because the Central Grounds portion of McCormick Rd is now one-way for summer roadside construction -- the routes from Gilmer to Chapel are fine, but in the other direction the busses have to take a detour through Emmet =D.

They're pulling up bus stops to renovate them -- hopefully we'll have some decent cover from the rain and wind this fall!

And I don't know what they're building by the Curry School -- an extension? It was bare steel when spring started but now I can see the emerging monolith of a massive building... I have no idea what they're doing by Clark Hall either. And Garrett? And oh oh it'll be so cool when the South Lawn opens. =D

Dean J, if you're reading this, I'm curious how much the University is spending on construction, and how the recession has affected it. Does this go on every year? Is construction during summer pretty routine?
