UVa students, how do you find your school facilities

Now that you've finally enrolled in UVa, what can you say about its facilities?

1. labs

2. class rooms

3. libraries

4. computer rooms

5. dorms

6. campus environment/landscape

1. Not Applicable

2. Classrooms are generally well appointed. Right now they're overbooked so you might end up in strange places here and there, taking History at the Nursing School for example, but this should be less of an issue with the current expansion.

3. Superb.

4. Budget cuts.

5. Eh... what you'd expect. Institutional. The atmosphere is great though and places like Lambeth are a lot of fun.

6. Superb. It's really stunning.

1. I can only speak about computer science lab(s), but as a TA I believe the dept cares for the equipment well (better than ITC).

2. New Cabell is horrendous. The crazy locations will not stop any time soon, and will soon include Curry classes from what I hear. It is really a problem and kind of shameful that UVA is so beautiful and its classrooms are so outdated. To be fair, the new comm school is beautiful. All of the classrooms at UVA should look like that.

3. Superb libraries

4. They are all being taken away since ITC does not have enough money to support them. It is a major problem.

5. Dorms are okay. I love Brown, the residential college in which I live, but I know other dorms have issues. The new new dorms are beautiful. The fact that first years ended up in Gooch/Dillard is somewhat unacceptable.

6. Beautiful The arboretum and landscape committee does a good job.

Athletic facilities are pretty good. It would be more amazing if only they had indoor tennis courts. There are some old buildings, like New Cabbell Hall which I want to demolish so badly.

1. I can only speak about chem labs, which are adequate, well-stocked, not unpleasant places to spend three and a half hours.

2. My classes are all over the place - there's nothing wrong with any of the rooms per se, but it can be awkward to be in a class of fifteen when there is room around the table for ten.

3. Awesome. Hit up the McGregor Room on the 2nd (?) floor of Alderman.

4. I've only ever used Stacks in Thornton, but pretty soon you'll be dependent upon your laptop.

5. I live in New Dorms, which are (mostly) suite-style and I, for the most part, enjoy it. They're farther away from classes, but they are closer to O-Hill, the gyms, the stadium...

6. Absolutely gorgeous. I try to remind myself to admire how beautiful it is once in a while.

RML, this page was recently updated, so it can give you an idea about the Grounds at UVA.
