What's up with the new trend in female attire?

I was at UVa last weekend enjoying the drubbing of IU. One thing that struck me-and several other older fans--was the fashion trend we saw in evidence all over campus. It was wearing a sundress or skirt with cowboy boots or similar heavy boots. One and then another and another. It's not a great look on most girls. Otherwise a great visit.

Being of the older generation I'm not sure that I understand it either. We were a bit surprised to see numerous young ladies sporting the look during a tour on a chilly March day. D assured me it's a popular look with her generation (although not one she favors). C'est la vie.

This isn't a UVa trend, so I'm not sure what we can say about it. The look has been on the runway and red carpet and has obviously made its way into everyday fashion.

At McGill this past weekend we saw a lot of females wearing exercise tights and leggings with big boots.

I'm buying Frye stock NOW :-)

Boots makes the girls legs look slim. Legs look long because of short skirt. West Coast version denim miniskirts with those vile Uggs.

I'm probably one of those gals that you saw on your recent visit; and I love my short dresses/sun dresses and boots. My mom doesn't quite get it but she thinks I look good in them! Boots are comfortable walking shoes. They tolerate the yucky rain/snow and stuff that CVL winter typically has every year. They really help when walking across Grounds. Mine have fancy designs on the outside, but really are cowgirl boots that are meant for tough working situations (like on a ranch). I even wore mine when I rushed for my sorority during the Spring of my first year at UVA! I got into a nice sorority too ;-)
Dean J is right though, it's not just at UVA. I know that many southern universities have this style. I'm just not familiar with northern u's, since I'm a southern gal.

Frye boots--that's the name I was looking for. I had mine back in 1971 or so. But with nice slim jeans. When I was nice and slim.
Anyway I drove down to UNC on Tuesday and saw just a couple girls sporting that look--but it was there too and it was just a normal class day so maybe less "dressing up."

I have/had two boys at UVA one a current 2nd year and one who just graduated in the spring...they both think the look is "hot"! If the guys dig it...that's all there is to say about that!

It's not a new look My daughter has been wearing frye boots for over 6 years. We have had them resoled and may have to invest in a new pair this year.

I went to NYC this summer with her older sister and boots were EVERYWHERE.
All kinds of boots, frye, cowboy, and heavy motor-cycle boots.

I will say that they don't "go" or "work" with all dresses and some girls may not be able to figure that out. I do think that it is a cute look. Also if the grounds are wet, they they do not trash their shoes.

Now that it's getting colder, I've been wearing my boots and boy, did I miss them. I have a pair that I can wear either over skinny jeans or under boot cut jeans, and they're great to walk in because they're durable, comfy, and stylish. Even the guys in EE say they look good. Boots + jeans + white top = ideal in my eyes. It's too cold for dresses now
