Yes, majority of universities have college bound reading list. The incoming freshman are expected to read some books of the list and come.

So just wondering if UW has one. Couldnt find on their site.

I believe there is a book by Tracy Kidder (Mountain Beyond Mountains) that is required reading.

This is a new idea for UW. According to news stories, it's not required, in the sense that you'll be made to turn in a book report on the first day of school, but recommended strongly that you read it. My book group read it, and it's quite good. Goes fast, so why not give up 3-5 hours of your time reading something that's thought provoking and gives you an appreciatation of the struggles that other folks have every day? The book not only about poverty and disease, but what people can do to make a difference.

There is no list. Incoming freshman this year will be asked to read one book, "Mountains Beyond Mountains". Here's a link to the Seattle Times story about it: http://archives.seattletimes.nwsourc...y=TRacy+Kidder

From the article: "Beginning next summer, every new student will be handed or mailed the same book and asked to read it by the time classes start." I'm guessing they will give them out at your orientation date.
