Backup Choices

I know that we're all hoping for the best here, and praying that we'll be huskies next year, but I was just curious as to which backup schools you all had in mind, or had been accepted to?
I've been accepted into WWU (Western...it was so weird, Im not even that great academically, and they accepted me within 2 weeks of sending my application. I think my guidance counselor had something to do with it, since she's really chummy with the head admissions counselor).
I've also been accepted to WSU (the party school in Pullman, WA...the last place in the world I really want to go to, since I dont really like Eastern WA, no offense to any people here from there.)
I know that they ARE universities and I should be pleased, but I just can't relax till I hear from the UW. It's been my first choice for as long as I've thought about college, and I have fallen in love with the campus. I attended Day with a Dawg back in November (where you attend classes with a host student, eat lunch there, have a campus tour and attend a freshman information session), and knew it was my dream school.
OK, enough blabbering...what about you guys?

Yeah pretty much same boat, got my WWU acceptance within just a few weeks. Didn't even apply to WSU cuz, yeah the hick life is not the life for me.

WWU doesn't seem to bad at all, Bellingham isn't horrible and they aren't too hickish. Plus like half hour from Canada. But the U is my first choice as well, hopefully hear something in March, if not then April for sure. I am only a few points away from auto entrance, so just by the numbers my chances should be good, but it still sorta worries me as my essay probably wasn't spectacular, didn't spend a great deal of time on it or anything, and on top of that I really don't have anything that special or unique on my app.

In addition to UW, I applied for University of Oregon (accepted), Baylor University (accepted), University of Arizona (?) and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (?).

I'm probably going to end up going to either University of Oregon or University of Arizona if I don't end up getting accepted to UW. I'm really hoping I get in though! I really want to be a huskie....

Tried to get my d interested in Oregon; U of Arizona; U. of British Columbia; Seattle Pacific; Western and Un. of Portland. But, alas she had 3 criteria; in-state; in Seattle; on Lake Washington! (Did apply and has been accepted to Western.) My research indicates Western is a strong school with a lot to offer an undergraduate.

where did you go, MMboys, ifyou dont mind me asking? My parents are geniuses, and dont understand why it would be a long shot for me to get into UW...my Dad went to Columbia (for undergrad, and law school), my Mom went to Wellesley. Both were straight A students with amazing SAT's, and at the top of their classes. Personally, I dont think it is possible for me to be genetically related (or I must have inherited the loser genes).

On one of the other threads there was a lot of discussion about whether admissions officers visit these boards. The consensus was it is more likely they do than don't. The conclusion was it may not be a good idea to write too much that could be used to identify a particular applicant. Do you really want to refer to yourself as a loser if you are an applicant to the UW?? Buck up. If you get in, great. If not, then go somewhere else. This is the same message I am giving to my d. For undergraduate work there are thousands of excellent colleges and universities. It will be up to you to grab the opportunity no matter where you go. And, you don't need to compare yourself to your parents. Believe me they love you no matter what happens. Do you think the fate of my d in your UW application has one grain of sand to do with love for her??? She has my full support, no matter what happens.

you're absolutely right, mmboys. Thanks for the advice. If I dont get into UW, its WWU for me. While it's nothing amazing, it has a fairly good reputation for undergraduates. I was having the same conversation with my Dad this morning at breakfast, and he said to me, "Admission to college is just the starting point. It's what you make of it afterwards that counts. You create your own experience, and you determine your future. If the UW is so unbelievable important to you, then you will go there, no matter what your starting point." And I will.
That said, I am continuing to hope and pray that I will get in for next year. But if I dont, I suppose it's not the end of the world. My neuroses about college are becoming bad for my health, and it's time I (and we all) took a long deep breath.
Roll on March/April...

Wise dad. I told my d essentially the same thing. If she goes to Western and still pines for the UW then she can work to transfer. Either way, you (she) will have to work hard. Good luck.

UW usually doesnt let people transfer from Universities to the UW. They let community college students in because they have contracts with the colleges and the state that they let atleast like 30% of their students from comm. college. So technically our d would have a much better chance to go to a c.c then transfer to the UW but that wouldnt be very smart since Western is as good as UW for getting ur BA.

Yeah on CC transfers, it used to be that you were guaranteed entrance, but its no longer guanateed, but not too hard from my understanding. If I don't get into the U, ill probably just stick it out at WWU, unless I really don't like it or something.

Originally, I really strongly considered B.C. (either UBC or SFU) but the international tuition was just too high. Vancouver is just as nice as Seattle, maybe a little friendlier actually. That, and (and even if you parents don't wanna hear it) the whole 19yr old alcohol age was a real draw. There used to be an agreement between Washington and B.C. offering instate tuition between the two, but that was dropped by Washington several years ago.

Too bad. I was pushing my d to consider UBC. Not only is the tuition high but they want $100.00 application fee from international students.

Canadian. However, the dollar is not as strong as in recent years so it is still a chunk of change.

I heard that you can get into the university as a transfer fairly easy even tho it isn't guranteed, but there was/is/are? a huge waiting list so that you won't be able to get in right away.

not from another university...but a comm college. I remember counselors telling us that it's extremley rare for the UW to accept someone from another Univ (like western) after like 2 years.
