It is said that you are exempt from the writing requirement if you scored 720 or above on the writing portion of the new SAT.but the McIntire pre-requsites say that writing courses are required to take during the first year.
So should I also take the writing courses though I meet the exemption requirement to get into McIntire?

you don't have to take them if you're exempt. Example--if you have a 5 on AP calc AB exam, you don't have to take calculus 121/131 even though its a prereq.
yeah typically you will find that they will accept your exemption. however, i do suggest that you contact someone from admissions at McIntire just to be sure.
