accepted! i'm so amazed...

i just wanted to post my stats to give a different perspective from all the 4.0's i'm seeing! haha

-GPA: 3.45/4.0 unweighted
-very rigorous school, one of the most rigorous in dallas and in the US; doesn't offer tons of AP's so i have taken about 6 total honors/ap classes
-SAT: 2160 (but 1370 / 1600) and no ACT
-essay: excellent. heck, i took probably 4 months to write that thing. and TCU gave me some sort of recognition for having an outstanding essay...i don't really know the official name for it, but anyways...
-ECs: excellent. I'm an editor on the newspaper, a committee head on the community service board, I dance, and I've initiated several com. serv. programs. I'm in Amnesty Int'l and started my own club, and I've won an NSPA award for an editorial I wrote.
-Recs: good to excellent. I have not seen my teacher recs, but my employer (from a summer internship) wrote me an incredible rec.

sorry this is a bit long. i guess i should add that my parents both went to vanderbilt, so that probably helped...BUT they didn't pull any strings. so, good luck everyone! you will all end up at great places, i'm sure!

Hi...I got accepted early decision...I was just wondering what type of GPA we need to maintain...I posted on the vandy blog but it didn't tell me quite what I wanted. I am a straight A student, only have received one B. However, I am in 6 AP classes this year and senioritis has definitely kicked in. If I get B's in these classes...do they count as A's? With straight B's I will still have a weighted GPA of 4.0...I'm not expecting all B's but who knows.

You're not going to get kicked out, don't worry. Just relax, but continue to work hard. You're fine.

I am looking at the scores of all who got accepted - wow -, you guys are awesome!! congratulations. My daughter applied to the music school and that is her strength (violin). Her stats are not even close - no hope of her getting accepted if the pool they are choosing from is with stats like I see posted. Oh well!!

dear aaviolinist, you shouldn't worry too much because the music school takes a closer look at the qualifications specifically with the music background. While the posted scores basically correspond to the scores that I got and all my friends got a few years ago, a girl who got into Blair music school did not have quite the grades we all did. for obvious reasons, I can't tell you your daughter's chances without knowing her scores, but do understand that they look for different skills in the applicants.
For all those worrying about their Extracurriculars and not having government or model UN stuff, here's what my profile looked like:
GPA: 96.7% (we didn't do a 4.0 scale) rank 32/400
SAT: Math 800 Verbal 660
SAT II: Math I 800 Math II 780 Japanese 800 APs: 9
EC: soccer 4 years, tennis 4 years, big brother's program (assigned to a kid and meet every week for activities) 4 years, housing rehab 4 years, summer volunteer trip to help at a Sioux Indian Reservation
Ethnicity: Asian

Good luck to all and if you have questions as to the life at vandy, i'm sure vandy members would be more than happy to answer them. I just graduated last may, but i may be back for law school. good luck.

Showing improvement from a 28 to a 32 would be a good sign. Obviously if you took the test once and got a 36, that would be ideal haha. But improving your score from 28 to 32+ (emphasis on the + ) will definitely help you.
