Admissions this year

InVandy has an article today on Admissions and Housing for the class of 2012.
Last year the number of applications was 12900 this year they are around 16800, up 30%. They are worried about the number of admits and meeting the 1550 number. The Solution seems to give less admits and put more on the waiting list. The number of admits they will be trying to achieve is 1450 and then take around 100 from the waitlist. It could get interesting. If they go above the 1550 then some rooms in the Commons will have to be tripled vs all doubled.

trey: don't think that means 9.23%....that would mean 100% yield...It probably means that they will lowball their total admits so that if their yield is higher than in the past, they will not have too many enrolling.....

it will mean about 4000 acceptances will equal about 23% rate. But it means that of the 16800 applicates that only 9.23% will attend that is huge.

Yup, that's what I figured also....Do you think the 16,800 includes EDI and II?

You should post this on the thread "Increases in applications"...I think Vandy is right up there with one of the highest....

    Very depressing.......

Does anyone have a figure for how much of the freshman class was taken from the ED pools?

Trey, where does the 4000 number come from? Have they said how many acceptances they will be offering?

rodney, I already added it to the "Increases in applications" thread on the Parents Forum. It is the largest increase so far noted.

approx. 4000 is the number in the past five years that have been accepted per the Common Data Set off the Vandy Website. It was like 4200 last year and 4100 the year before. Thus my 4000 number with 123 less students in this years freshman class compared to last year. Housing Director is afraid of a Housing crunch like last year. The Article from InsideVandy said that they were going to accept less and waitlist more and take about 100 off the waitlist assuring themselves of the right number so incoming class can all live in the Commons.

Ed I applications make up 1133 of the applications total of 16800 and that was a 41% increase in ED I applications compared to last year. Both ED I & II will make up about 450 acceptances of the future freshman class.

Might this have something to do with the elimination of the "Why Vandy" question in the application? Requiring that essay probably was a good way for the school to limit applications. I know it kept some kids from my d's high school with a weak interest in the school from applying last year.
