Party Scene

I'm NOT a big fan of constant wild parties. While obviously I enjoy a good party now and then I'm not a fan of the crazy drunken parties you'd expect at a state school. I've heard stories about Vandy and it's party scene... are these true? Can you get along without constantly being drunk or partying?

Absolutely yes to the "concern" about the parties. Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays are the big "go out" nights.

Yes to the second.

CIA, my perspective is that of a parent of a student who just finished his freshman year. My son is very sociable but also not a fan of the type of party scene you allude to. He had no trouble finding a lot of friends and a lot of activities.

Be wary of posts from students who haven't even enrolled at Vanderbilt yet.

Party scene is too alive, and too early!

Drove down 21st avenue this morning at 7:20 and noticed 5 Vandy girls in cap and gown waiting to cross the street and at least 2 had big bottles of champagne openly guzzling them in plain view of parents and motorists. I wonder if they will remember much of their graduation or that they probably threw up all over their classmates. It was pretty disgusting to watch.

^^^Hmm, can we be hopeful that it was the non-alcoholic bubbly stuff?

I saw those girls too

It was the fruity bubbly stuff. After all it is illegal to drink open bottles of alchohol in public areas.
Hope4freeride, they were just blowing off a little steam and getting a head start on their hydration. They have a long day ahead of them.

No one would have called my dorky engineering school a party school, but there I was with 2 of my best friends ... drinking Boone's Farm out of the bottle before our graduation. We were 22/23 (legal drinking age) ... I had been married for a month, for heaven's sake ... we weren't wasted ... we were just celebrating our hard-earned degrees.

Maybe those girls were also just enjoying the day. It only happens once, and not all celebrations involving alcohol are irresponsible.

^^^At 7:30 in the morning? I don't think I was ever young enough to drink alcoholic stuff at that time of the day. In my case, it would have had to be the phony bubbly, or I'd have been comatose for the graduation.

the party scene is pretty solid. i didnt join a frat, and it took me a while to find out that theres other stuff to do. next year is going to be fun, since i have a pretty good knowledge of where to go beyond the frat scene. sunday night is slow, but thats about it. tuesdays are going to take a hit, since nuesdays wont be happening.

midmo, what if it was just REALLY late in the night for them? It's definitely possible. They probably just popped a few adderall to stay awake through the ceremonies and were washing them down with some sweet sweet bubbly. Reasonable don't you think?

For people to think that going to Vanderbilt, they won't be around people that will be going out constantly is, well, ignorant. However, it is just as ignorant to think that there isn't a niche that is very "intellectual", I hear there are even some feminists on campus!

Palmettobug

Dude, you're buggy. Do you even go to Vanderbilt? You like to try and sound shocking and all but you don't quite make it. All you end up sounding like is...well...weird. Sorry.

Well... People choose to trash out in every colleges. If you, palmettotree, are strict about drinking alcohol, I kind of understand how you see the people as "ignorant". (I would say that they are not wise if they chose to trash out.) However.... feminist part seems not relevant to what you were mentioning. lol

I do have to agree with those who say it was pretty early in the morning for the bubbly! I didn't think about the time when I posted. Agree with midmo ... that can lead to an unplanned nap during graduation ceremonies ... which would be a bummer considering that Bob Geldof is a pretty interesting guy.
