Visiting Vanderbilt July 21st (Monday): Hotels?

I'm going to visit Vanderbilt on July 21st on their preVU day. My father & I planned to go to Nashville the night before considering the preVU program starts at 8 AM.

So, just a one-night stay for us.

I was wondering if anyone had any good suggestions for hotels (not too expensive, but not hole-in-the-walls either).

We always stay at the Hampton Inn and Suites on Elliston Place. There's also a Holiday Inn Express nearby and a Marriott Courtyard. Stay away from the Loews if you want a good price!!

My family always stays at Embassy Suites on Broadway. Do NOT stay at the West End Lodge (formerly the Day's Inn)

Friends of ours enthusiastically recommend the Hampton Inn & Suites on Elliston Place (not the one on West End Avenue) - we plan to try it next time we visit. We've stayed at the Loew's (lovely hotel but big bucks), the Marriott at Vanderbilt (nice, not as pricey as the Loews but still up there), and the Embassy Suites at Vanderbilt on Broadway (good hotel, usually cheaper than the Marriott, nice amount of space in each suite).

I'll second the Courtyard. We always have good experiences there. I really love the Marriott right next door to Vanderbilt, but it is pricier. I always hear raves about Loews. My favorite scene is when the bellboys from Loews are wheeling stuff across the street on the big brass carts for students who are assigned to Vandy/Barnard.

By far, the best hotels at Vandy are the Loews and the Marriott. The nice thing about the Marriott is it's ideal location in proximity to the school AND restaurants, shops, etc. If you have Marriott Rewards points, definitely stay there.

Otherwise, another hotel that I love that is very new and very inexpensive is Hotel Indigo. It's a boutique hotel owned by ic hotels (the co. that owns holiday inn) and when we stayed there in February and April, it was $79/night. The hotel is brand new and VERY nice for a VERY reasonable price. I'd highly recommend it.

Aside, my other recs would be the Hampton Inn on Elliston (eat at Logan's if you stay here; better yet, eat here either way!), or the Courtyard on West End.

One of D's friends who was a May graduate toured Hotel Indigo with her mom to see if they wanted to book for graduation. They said it was very nice.

Our D is a senior, and we have always stayed at the Hampton Inn on West End, or the Hampton Inn and Suites on Elliston. Both are nice, clean and convenient.

If you are concerned about price (it can get costly) then there are some nice options out by the airport. Literally only a 10-15 minute, easy drive to campus. They don't typically jack up the prices when they know there are events going on...

D & her friend stayed at the Drury Inn at the airport when they went to visit. They really liked it.

I am trying to decide where to stay for move in day. D is in Vandy/Barnard & I think it would be nice to stay somewhere close enough to walk back & forth to the hotel. Which hotel(s) would work well? And would a fully packed van be safe overnight?

How hard is it to find a parking place on a Wednesday afternoon, if we decide to stay some place that isn't walking distance?

Well Loews is almost directly across the street. I'm also living in Vandy/Barnard and staying at the Embassy Suites on Broadway. A bit of a walk, but they also have a free hotel shuttle. I think the Hampton Inn is also fairly close. As far as the van, I wouldn't worry too much about it. I usually take my more expensive items into the room with me (TV, computer, etc.). Most of the cars outside Vandy/Barnard should be gone by about 5pm or so, so you could probably park there (might be a problem w/o a permit). There are also meters on West End.

We stayed at Courtyard Marriott on West End in June. Ask them for the Vanderbilt discount. I think the rate was $109/night. You will be so impressed with PreVu. Wish all colleges put on a detailed event like it.
