Scholarships!

for merit based scholarships, i know there is the cornelius vanderbilt, ingram, and chancellors scholarship. do individual schools like blair and peabody award them as well? are there any "secret" scholarships they dont really tell you about up front?

When my middle d was looking at schools a few years ago, Vandy had a full listing of all their merit scholarships in their catalog. It was an extensive list. I don't know if there's a PDF version online for the current year - maybe your high school or library has a hard copy of the catalog, if not.

You've probably already seen this webpage:
Merit Scholarship Programs

It refers to Vandy's "limited" merit scholarships in addition to the named opportunities, ranging up to full tuition. I don't know if this means that Vandy has changed its program for incoming students, but I can tell you that, as a College Scholar in A & S, my d has a 3/4 tuition Dean's Scholarship and a $2K annual National Merit scholarship. If you're a NM Finalist, Vandy awards you a $5K annual scholarship unless you also receive another Vandy merit scholarship, in which case the NM award is $2K annually. Generous, generous school.

Very generous school. if you have a need and dont get the highly prestigious scholarships, you will be shocked at the amount of grants that will be made available for you. grants are basically like scholarships in that they are not repaid. financial aid was a huge factor in my decision to go to vandy and it def. paid off.
