I need some help with financial aid!

If I were to try and get maybe $5,000-$10,000 in a gift-merit based scholarship, how would I go about it. Should I just fill out the financial aid forms, or should I apply for the cornelius vanderbilt scholarship. If so, would this lessen my chance of admission....

In other words, if I am applying early and am looking for a small amount of merit based aid (not financial aid) could, I just submit a fin. aid form, and will they award me money if my stats are good enough?

applying for scholarships will not lessen your chance of admissions.
