SAT Subject test

My son visited Vassar for the 2nd time and loved it and is now thinking about maybe applying ED 1 or 2. He has good SAT scores (790 CR, 670 M, 660 W) and he is taking them again next week. He has also taken 2 SAT Subject Tests (US history 800, World History 790). He took the ACT but didnt do as well (Composite 30). Looks like Vassar needs SAT subject test in two different subjects. So does that mean that he needs to take another because they are both history? If he takes it in November it will be too late for ED 1. One of the things that is so appealing about Vassar is the open curriculum. He LOVES history and politics, he can take classes that he wants to take at Vassar and not be hampered by a strict core curriculum. Why both taking a Math SAT 2 if he is not going to pursue math in college?

Another mom weighing in. The Vassar website clearly states that SAT IIs should be in two different subject areas; imo that means something other than history, though not necessarily Math. You might want to contact the Vassar admissions office and just ask.

But it does look like your son can sit for another test in November and still be on time for EDI (this is from the admissions FAQ page:
Q: What is the latest date I can take standardized tests?
A: For candidates who elect the Early Decision Round I(November 15) deadline, the November sitting for the SAT/SAT Subject Tests and October sitting for the ACT are the latest allowed.

For those who elect the Early Decision Round II(January 1) deadline, the December sittings for the SAT/SAT Subject Tests and the ACT are the latest allowed.

Candidates who elect the Regular Decision (January 1) deadline, the January sitting for the SAT/SAT Subject Tests and December sitting for the ACT are the latest allowed.

Good luck! It's a great school; on my S' list to apply.

thank you. I also reached out to admissions. For Yale and all of the other schools, the SAT 2 can be in anything, unless you are going for Engineering. He already took IB math and is in AP Calculus so Im sure he can take the math without too much effort. I just hate all of these tests!!!
