Information Session: Yes - Typical information stressing Brown's unique qualities; no core, shopping period. Admissions officer had very dry, boring delivery, but student was wonderful; vibrant, good speaker.

Spoke with the admissions office, gave us the information we were looking for. Cafeteria workers were very friendly, as was a maintenance worker, who spoke to us for about 15 minutes.

Nice area within walking distance with all kinds of restaurants, shops, etc. A mix of low-end and high end. We ate at a very good Greek restaurant 2 blocks from campus.

Providence appeared to be a very nice, diverse, livable small city. I liked the mix of old and new, the capitol, the hills. It appeared to be easy to get around, and fairly affordable.

Campus Visit Notes for Brown University

Visit Description:

We both loved Brown and Providence, though we did see it in August, not February. Not many students around, but those that were, mainly working for the admissions office, seemed really happy. We spent some time in the newly remodeled student center, which is absolutely beautiful. Great colors and furniture, lots of places to hang out.

The information session stressed the new curriculum, the shopping period, and all the advising that was available. Tour guide was very funny (at least we thought so), and was able to make fun of Brown in a nice way, along with giving us lots of student information.

Hotel/Lodging Recommendations or Comments:

We stayed at the Westin Providence using Priceline. Lovely, comfortable room. Hotel is attached to nice mall with a walkway, so easy to get a quick bite if you get in late.

Dining/Restaurant Recommendations or Comments:

Got into Providence late and had some Indian food at the mall food court. Didn't want to drive anywhere after coming from NYC. Lunch after tour at Andreas Greek Restaurant, excellent.

Other Comments (Transportation, local attractions, parking, etc.):

Parking was difficult around Brown. All streets have a 2-hour limit. We found a street without a sign and came back to a $20 parking ticket.
