Campus:
Friendliness/Courtesy of Students:
4 - Very Good
Just like any other community college
Friendliness/Courtesy of Staff:
3 - Good
The school is really crowded, so advisers and teachers are always busy. Be prepared to wait to line for the registrar.
Appearance of Campus:
4 - Very Good
The school used to be the Charlestown jail, so some of the classrooms are set up on old cell blocks. The most unique community college you will find for sure. Very clean and modern otherwise.
Building/Facilities Maintenance/Cleanliness:
5 - Excellent
The facilities are very modern, and every classroom has new technology. For a crowded community college losing funding, it is pretty nice.
Dormitories:
1 - Poor
N/A
Security/Safety:
3 - Good
I have seen people breaking into cars in the parking lot, but other than that it is pretty safe. They have police officers that patrol.
Overall Campus Impression:
5 - Excellent
Its a commuter community college in an old area of Boston next to the highway, so you have to go with a certain expectation. It is the best community college in Massachusetts and transferring is easy
Off-Campus:
Area Immediately Around Campus:
2 - Fair
Trucks from a cement mixing plant share the roads to the parking lot, and the area around in a intersection for different highways. There are also some industrial parks where Kaplan is.
City/Town/Community:
3 - Good
Charlestown is generally a working class area. Easy to get lost if you don't know where you are going. I would not adventure around if you are not familiar.
Campus Visit Notes for Bunker Hill Community College
Visit Description:
I went to high school in Massachusetts, but transferred into Bunker Hill from another university. I wasn't prepared for my freshman year away and didn't do well. Bunker Hill allowed me to bring my grades up and find a career for myself. I really appreciate that we have second chance options like this in Massachusetts being as I am transferring to another university. The Mass Transfer program will give you automatic admission to other Massachusetts Universities if you complete an Associates Degree. Otherwise, you can complete a Mass Transfer Block of courses which will also transfer to Massachusetts Universities, but admission is not guaranteed. You can also take courses for cheap if you want the education. Definitely worth the money - forget the stigma and stereotypes of community college!
