Visit Activities:

Information Session: Yes - Spoke about financial aid and the key components of admission that make you stand out in admissions besides grades with examples. Spoke about the student body and the diversity they seek. Well done.

Campus Tour: Yes - The campus is not huge and sprawling, but ironically it seems like an ideal size. There is more greenery than I expected in the middle of NYC, and the buildings and architecture were extraordinary.

Nothing to complain about. Friendly and eager to be of assistance.

Some buildings needed to be cleaned (only 1-2, and it is summer, loads of time to clean), but overall everything looked amazing.

Dormitories:

I got to see a single room (not suite) and it was pretty small. Maybe 7ft by 5-6ftft. Ample room to survive in though, and it probably becomes cozy after awhile. Doubles and Suites are larger.

Security/Safety:

Standard college security protocols. Even a program that if you are outside the campus in NYC and you feel unsafe, you can enter any shop that shows a special poster and they will assist you.

Overall Campus Impression:

Very impressive. Did not let me down as being the first Ivy Campus I've visited.

Off-Campus:

Area Immediately Around Campus:
5 - Excellent

Safe area even though you would think otherwise in NYC. Our tour guide who was a student said she never felt unsafe, even downtown late at night.

Campus Visit Notes for Columbia University

Visit Description:

Information session and then a tour. Hot day, but somehow the tour guides made it seem as if we were sitting in shade the entire time we were walking. VERY impressive athletics center. The varsity sports courts are off-campus and bus shuttles run players to those locations.
