Visit Activities:
Information Session:
Yes - It was just like any other info session--you learn a few new things amidst mostly self-explanatory information.
Campus Tour:
Yes - We saw a lot of the campus, but not the insides of any eating areas or dormitories.
Campus:
Friendliness/Courtesy of Students:
5 - Excellent
Just all-around welcoming and friendly.
Friendliness/Courtesy of Staff:
5 - Excellent
Excellent.
Appearance of Campus:
4 - Very Good
As an overall campus Dartmouth looks really nice, especially with the natural backdrop of New Hampshire. However, some of the older buildings looked to be in need of renovation.
Building/Facilities Maintenance/Cleanliness:
3 - Good
Two of the four buildings we saw on the tour didn't look all that great from inside, so I'm kind of worried as to what the rest of the campus is like. The two we saw beforehand were nice tho
Dormitories:
We didn't see them, but they looked nice architecturally and were all in the same general area (along with the frats) if you like that sort of thing.
Security/Safety:
5 - Excellent
Even if anything ever happens in Hanover, Dartmouth has those emergency buttons at different locations on campus.
Overall Campus Impression:
4 - Very Good
Off-Campus:
Area Immediately Around Campus:
5 - Excellent
You can't beat New Hampshire for the natural scene. That being said, if you don't already know that Hanover is pretty isolated, it is.
City/Town/Community:
2 - Fair
Hanover is a lot smaller and run-down than I thought it would be. Bottom line: the shops and restaurants next to campus are nice, but once you get beyond them there isn't much.
Campus Visit Notes for Dartmouth College
Visit Description:
Overall, I was surprised at how similar Dartmouth was to most LACs. Given the fact that Dartmouth is twice the size of the typical LAC, I was expecting Hanover to be twice the size of the typical LAC town. While there are some clear differences between Dartmouth and LACs (DI athletics, medical school right on campus etc.), I would say Dartmouth is closer to Williams than it is to HYP.
Hotel/Lodging Recommendations or Comments:
We didn't stay overnight but there is an inn right on campus.
Dining/Restaurant Recommendations or Comments:
You can't go wrong with any of the shops/restaurants right off campus.
