Visit Activities:

Admissions Interview: Yes

Information Session: Yes - It was given by an Asst. Dir. of Admissions who is a recent grad (2006, I think). It was obvious how much she loves the school, and the information she provided was helpful.

Campus Tour: Yes - Our tour guide was a rising junior. She also gave out a lot of info - only problem was her stats differed from those of the admissions rep. Still, the tour was fun and D was glad we went.

Classroom Visit: No - classes ended the day before we toured - it was first day of their reading period.

Gorgeous campus. Red brick buildings surrounding a green. The town of Hanover is at one end, just across the street from campus.

We didn't get to go into many buildings, but the ones we did see were in excellent condition. Everything was clean, no litter anywhere.

Dormitories:
didn't get to see any - the tour guide said they were all so different from one another that there's no point.

Security/Safety:

Hanover seems like a pretty safe town. I believe the tour guide said the nearest hospital is 2 miles away - the Dartmouth Medical Center.

We really didn't see much of the surrounding area, but the tour guide said there are free buses that run by the campus that will take students to W. Lebanon where there is more shopping available

Campus Visit Notes for Dartmouth College

Visit Description:

We arrived the night before our campus visit. D's grandmother forgot her case for her contact lenses, and there was a 24-hour CVS two blocks from our hotel (also 2 blocks from campus), so that was convenient. Lots of students were walking around town - it was about 9:30 or 10 at night.

The info session and tour were both very informative. D loved the campus, the academics, and the town. Some conflicting info given by the tour guide and the admissions rep, but otherwise everything was great. Meal plan is entirely on the debit system, and tutoring is $10/hour unless you're on financial aid. Tour guide said it was free for FA students, but someone else said that's only for the first three hours.

The one thing D learned that she didn't like is that at Dart you have to pass a swimming test to graduate. It won't stop her from applying though.

Hotel/Lodging Recommendations or Comments:

We stayed at the Hanover Inn which is at the end of the Dartmouth Campus - a beautiful hotel with excellent service. We were able to check out and leave our car in their lot while we visited.

Dining/Restaurant Recommendations or Comments:

We ate breakfast at the Hanover Inn as well. Very convenient, quick and delicious. The waiter overheard S say he wanted choc chip pancakes and he said no problem though they're not on the menu.

Other Comments (Transportation, local attractions, parking, etc.):

Not sure. We parked at the hotel. Tour guide mentioned free buses to W. Lebanon, and other buses to Manchester and Boston which you pay for.
