Visit Activities:
Information Session:
Yes - when asked how easy it was to change to business or foreign service adm. rep replied that you can't but most incoming freshman know what they want to major in (that got a chuckle from the parents
Campus Tour:
Yes - Unfortunately it rained on and off. Tour guide seemed a bit obsessed with the prestige of Georgetown which was a turn off.
Campus:
Friendliness/Courtesy of Students:
3 - Good
Strangely saw most kids walking around by themselves, rarely saw groups. When we were trying to find the admission building (using a map) no one stopped and asked us if we needed help.
Friendliness/Courtesy of Staff:
3 - Good
So many people the week of spring break, they shuffled you through.
Appearance of Campus:
2 - Fair
Main quad was pretty with flowers but hate the ugly, modern library that looks like it is out of place next to beautiful Healy Hall.
Building/Facilities Maintenance/Cleanliness:
2 - Fair
Surprised by how dirty it was. Weeds growing thru cracks in walkways, garbage laying in corners of dormitory quads. Construction going on so that doesn't help.
Dormitories:
Outside these dormitory villages it seemed almost barren, no landscaping, benches. Did not see a dorm however.
Overall Campus Impression:
2 - Fair
It has been years since I have been there and I was taken back by how noisy the campus is with the planes overhead every 5 minutes, trucks rolling through campus.
Off-Campus:
Area Immediately Around Campus:
5 - Excellent
Adorable area around campus. Who doesn't love the charm of the Georgetown area.
City/Town/Community:
4 - Very Good
DC speaks for itself although it would be nice to have a metro stop
Campus Visit Notes for Georgetown University
Visit Description:
We were disappointed with our visit. Georgetown seemed a bit more like an academic factory...shuffle you in, shuffle you out. Not impressed at all with the campus although it was a dreary day so I hope that had something to do with it. Terrible job routing you to the parking garage. Every time we thought we were there we were told to snake around these traffic jammed side streets to another entrance. Once there, the place was dark, dimly lit and kind of scary. Did not see students walking together at all. Everyone seemed to be walking solo and there didn't seem to be alot of activity on campus except for all the parents and students visiting! Thought that it would be a bit more preppy and alot of the students seemed almost sloppy with an urban grunge look to them which was surprising.
Hotel/Lodging Recommendations or Comments:
Savoy which was about a mile away on Wisconsin. Nice boutique hotel with complimentary parking
