Visit Activities:
Information Session:
Yes - After the tour we gathered in the Main Building and where able to talk with almost all the admissions counselors and ask questions.
Campus Tour:
Yes - We started out by walking a block down to the student union, a renovated YMCA, then toured classroom buildings, the auditorium, and split off by gender to see men's and women's dorm.
Campus:
Friendliness/Courtesy of Students:
5 - Excellent
Student tour guides were really nice. It was Saturday so there weren't a whole lot of other students around.
Friendliness/Courtesy of Staff:
5 - Excellent
Really receptive to any sort of questions, it was great to meet my admissions counselor.
Appearance of Campus:
4 - Very Good
Very pretty, doesn't look like it's a big city campus. There is a lot of open space and trees.
Building/Facilities Maintenance/Cleanliness:
3 - Good
The Cafeteria was nice, other buildings were old and not very clean, especially Proctor Hall, the classroom building we saw. They're really nice buildings however.
Dormitories:
3 - Good
Pretty good size, but it was really hot in there and there was only a VERY small window. But there was an internet connection, a pretty large closet, and sinks in the room.
Security/Safety:
3 - Good
Didn't see any campus security but apparently there is some. We were told about the 24 hour escort service and the text alert system.
Overall Campus Impression:
4 - Very Good
Really needs some maintenance, but overall very nice. It's a great campus.
Off-Campus:
Area Immediately Around Campus:
2 - Fair
Just didn't seem like a nice area, but the proximity to Donwtown is good.
City/Town/Community:
4 - Very Good
I know from living near it that Greensboro is an active, vibrant town with a lot to do.
Campus Visit Notes for Greensboro College
Visit Description:
After the official tour, I was sort of given an unofficial, unplanned theatre tour, and I was able to see the rehearsal area and the Parlor Theatre, where they were getting ready for The Laramie Project. The Laramie Project was an awesome production and really touched my heart. But I was actually pretty unimpressed with the theatre itself, very old and not very well-equipped, and there are these columns which blocked my view of almost an entire scene. The main auditorium, Huggins, is nice but not a lot of performances go on there.
Other Comments (Transportation, local attractions, parking, etc.):
Traffic was awful when I was going back for the performance at about 7. There was a lot of parking for us, and every student gets to park their car on campus, something I haven't seen much of.
