Visit Activities:

Admissions Interview: Yes - Incredibly comfortable interview — I felt instantly at home with my bubbly interviewer, something I can't say for some other interviews, and certainly nothing as welcoming.

Information Session: Yes - Very helpful for those who haven't researched Haverford, but those who have perused the website will have heard most of the information before.

Campus Tour: Yes - Very friendly and outgoing tour guide, eager to share experiences and details on specific departments. Bonus: others on tour were very likeable and friendly people.

Campus:

Friendliness/Courtesy of Students:
5 - Excellent
5 - Excellent
Since it was a summer visit, I saw mostly my tour guide — however, we saw several students during our tour, all of whom were very friendly and introduced themselves. I was very impressed.

Friendliness/Courtesy of Staff:

5 - Excellent
The Haverford staff was very welcoming, offering plenty of water (visit was during a heat wave), offering to hold my bag during the tour, and being genuinely pleasant.

Appearance of Campus:
4 - Very Good
4 - Very Good
Like any college campus over the summer, Haverford had a good deal of construction during my visit, but that didn't detract from the feel of the campus. Small, but beautiful, and very pleasant.

Building/Facilities Maintenance/Cleanliness:
5 - Excellent
5 - Excellent

Dormitories:
3 - Good

Dorms weren't anything special — although it's good to hear they're building two new dorms! Space seemed tight where we looked.

Security/Safety:
5 - Excellent

Overall Campus Impression:
5 - Excellent
5 - Excellent
While smaller than any of the other campuses I looked at, Haverford's seemed equally attractive while being in true "easy access" of an incredibly city.

Off-Campus:

Area Immediately Around Campus:
3 - Good
3 - Good
As someone with dietary restrictions, the food options were disappointing from what I saw. It's not a bad area, but nothing to write home about.

City/Town/Community:
Philadelphia is an incredible asset of Haverford, being 15 minutes by train (Haverford offers free tickets available early in the AM!). Definitely something they can hold over other LACs.

Campus Visit Notes for Haverford College

Visit Description:

After running from the train station to the Whitehead Campus Center during what was a horrid heatwave (high 90s, 85% humidity), arriving out of breath and drenched in sweat only minutes before the tour was to start, the admissions staff was very welcoming, offering me some cold water only moments after arriving. For me, this was a great start to what would be a one of the best college visits I've had. My tour guide had many shared interests, which was helpful when she shared information about research she was doing, professors she liked, and classes that were meaningful to her. We saw a number of students during our tour, all of whom were eager to share what they were doing at Haverford over the summer, which was a great way to get a feel for the student body while visiting during the summer. The campus seemed small compared to what other colleges I looked at, but it felt like it could be just as much of a place to call home. Beyond the tour, the information session was well done and had little tidbits about the school, but as I had spent hours reading their site, I found little new in the information session. However, the man running it was helpful for answering my questions. My interview was more of a friendly chat, running a little over an hour. My interviewer not only gave me a great impression of the Haverford student body, but was able to put me in contact with a student doing an internship in the field I expressed interest in. My interviewer, my tour guide, and the person my interviewer put me in contact with all replied quickly and answered my questions excellently.
