Campus Visit Notes for Indiana University Bloomington

Visit Description:

My son and I visited IU Bloomington in July 2007. We stayed at the Homewood Suites and rented a car. It was just one campus on our tour. We were also visiting Vanderbilt and Notre Dame. IU blew us away! It is absolutely gorgeous.

We picked IU because of its excellent ROTC program and Chinese/Foreign Language department. We made appointments via email for interviews with the Admissions Counselor that we had met at high school, the Chinese Department, and Army ROTC. All that we met were very easy to get ahold of and they all responded promptly.

We started the day with a trip to the visitor's center. They were great. Very friendly staff. Since we had a long day planned, it was nice to know we could come back there if we got tired and just needed a place to sit inside. The gal in charge loved the fact that my son (6'4" blonde) spoke Chinese, so she gave him her card and offered him a job if he attends IU. We have kept the card!

The admissions interview went well, and we decided to skip the tour since we had all of our questions answered and had spent the day before walking around. We had lunch in one of the dorms cafeterias (We even got a $5 coupon from admissions!)

The interview with the East Asian Language department rep was fantastic. It has, to date, been the most informative. She really appeared interested in my son and his choices.

Next, Army and Air Force ROTC interviews. Everyone was a nice as could be. But that has been the case at every ROTC interview we have been on. But, we were able to also meet with the admin who helps the scholarship paperwork and such, so that was invaluable.

Overall the atmosphere was very accomodating, cheerful, the campus is breathtaking, and the food was great!

End of Story: Son applied and was accepted with a 4yr ROTC Scholarship and an IU Scholarship.
