Visit Activities:

Admissions Interview: Yes - Interview was relaxed, although it lasted over an hour. Interviewer was pleasant and knowledgable and a Knox graduate.

Campus Tour: Yes - Tour guide was personable and humorous. Campus is small and adequate. Saw various academic buildings and one dorm on the tour.

Chatted with several tour guides. Ate lunch with a student who didn't seem to be a good ambassador for the college, although friendly enough.

Beth Jonsberg did a fantastic job of coordinating our visit. Cafe employees were pleasant. Admission counselors were friendly and helpful.

Everything seemed well-kept. Some outdoor work was being done. Hot summer fried most of the vegetation...not surprising.

The facilities were maintained reasonably well, especially the older academic buildings. Dorms, however, were another story.

Dreadful. Suite style with four tiny bedrooms & bath opening onto a dingy, musty smelling common room. Guide told us the suites usually house 6-8 students. Can't imagine that many people t

Only saw one emergency box. Guide didn't mention security at all.

Within walking distance to downtown Galesburg. Upscale restaurants and quaint shops. Most shopping can't be done there, though.

Campus Visit Notes for Knox College

Visit Description:

After all the slick marketing materials, I certainly expected much more. Perhaps the academics are top notch; however, the facilities are just adequate. Knox offers all of the programs my student wanted; a plus! The study abroad opportunity seems well thought out with a large number of students taking advantage of it. Food was just average with only two dining options on campus. Meal plans do not roll over, so you have to be careful how much you purchase. Athletic facility small but nice. Dorms are downright depressing. Not sure how I feel about Knox yet.
