Visit Activities:

Information Session: Yes - Good session by current admissions officer, a USC grad, very personable, effective, but not overly memorable. Got the job done though.

Campus Tour: Yes - Good tour by jocular, if somewhat nerdy (OK, it's MIT, I know) tour guide. Lots of amusing anecdotes. Diffused the hard-core stereotype of MIT. Tour reinforced sprawling aspect of campus though.

Campus Visit Notes for Massachusetts Institute of Technology

Visit Description:

Out of MIT's control, S's experience with the MIT visit was partly colored by the others on the tour. Unfortunately all the other visitors were guys, mostly Asian, and most looked as if they hadn't showered in weeks - typical nerds. Even though S is a Math/Science guy and can recite Harry Potter, he felt out of place here. The other negative was the spread out campus. One freshman dorm was pointed out on the skyline, it seemed a mile away. And the guide was talking about his fraternity, who's house wasn't even in the same city - Cambridge - as MIT, being located across the Charles in Boston proper. And we were shown two beautiful lecture halls, seating several hundred each, but it just seemed to emphasize how large your classes would be there.
