Visit Activities:
Information Session:
Yes
Campus Tour:
Yes - The tour was excellent. Got most of the campus in, minus the dorms, but those weren't included in the tours. I learned quite a bit about the school, and the guide himself knew lots.
Classroom Visit:
Yes - Intro to Chem class, and while most of it was what I've learned in AP chem, it was still taught extremely well and I was interested the entire time. The prof even had cool demos and made a few j
Campus:
Friendliness/Courtesy of Students:
4 - Very Good
Didn't talk to many, but the few I did meet were quite friendly. I was especially surprised that they did not seem to be typical quebecois for the most part, they were friendly towards an americ
Friendliness/Courtesy of Staff:
4 - Very Good
Very nice staff. They were very busy, and as such didn't have much time to greet me extensively, but they were always ready and willing to help if asked.
Appearance of Campus:
5 - Excellent
The campus was amazing. A nice mix of old and new architecture. Lots of places to relax and study outside of libraries. Nice decent sized fields in the front for playing sports or hanging out.
Building/Facilities Maintenance/Cleanliness:
5 - Excellent
Very clean, just like the city of Montreal. Very clean.
Dormitories:
4 - Very Good
The only dorm I got to see what the New Rez, which was an old Marriott that was bought and converted. Although it was like a hotel, it was very clean, secure, and well dressed.
Security/Safety:
5 - Excellent
Phenomenal. I walked around downtown at night, and never once felt unsafe. Campus was the same way.
Overall Campus Impression:
5 - Excellent
I tremendously enjoyed it, and it is by far my first choice school. Great people, lots of stuff to do, and a fun place to go, while still being challenged.
Off-Campus:
Area Immediately Around Campus:
5 - Excellent
Lots of stuff to do, safe, clean, extremely clean.
City/Town/Community:
5 - Excellent
The town is probably the safest and cleanest place I've ever been. I can't say enough about how clean it is, if I didn't know any better, I'd swear they spitshine their sidewalks.
Campus Visit Notes for McGill University
Visit Description:
I enjoyed the underground mall, which will be a great place to go, especially during the winter. The culture was great, the people were much nicer than I expected, and I was able to function perfectly without knowing more than about ten words in french. The only questionable item in the city was the sheer amount of strip clubs, so it was kind of awkward walking around with my mom, but other than that, it was great. It's not so much the fact that there are strip clubs, just that there's about as many of them as there are restaurants it seems.
Overall, the city is just amazing. I also loved seeing the school as I walked through the front gates, nestled up at the bottom of Mont Royal. I would also enjoy venturing into the park as a break from the big city every once in a while.
