Visit Activities:

Information Session: Yes - The assistant director of admissions gave the session- she told us everything we needed to know and said the predictable things. Not alot of time for questions though, she talked the solid hour.

Campus Tour: Yes - Once again, predictable descriptions. It was nice, though, to see the campus, because it is gorgeous.

Campus:

Appearance of Campus:

They are building a new center that will surely be gorgeous. The buildings dont look very 'institutional' but are very pretty. Buildings look to be in good condition from what I could see.

Dormitories:
3 - Good

We saw a 'typical' freshman dorm- definetely tiny, but the building was clean.

Security/Safety:
4 - Very Good

Only one blue light in the center campus, something that my parents didnt like- there are more on the outskirts of the campus. The tour leader said that she feels safe at all times, even late at night

Overall Campus Impression:

Definetely "Club Midd"! Large, beautiful buildings and green space with amazing views of Vermont's beauty.

Off-Campus:

Area Immediately Around Campus:
3 - Good

The campus is right in the village of Middlebury- not alot to do there. A couple restaurants, cute coffee shops. Dont go to the mexican place- it was the worst food I've ever had!

City/Town/Community:
2 - Fair

Again, it didnt look like there was alot to do. Mexican food in Vermont- not a good choice.

Campus Visit Notes for Middlebury College

Visit Description:

The drive to campus is definetely through rural Vermont- gorgeous! However, the campus really is in a rural area. The college owns a ski/snowboard mountain for the students to use that is definetely a plus. Burlington is about an hour north, with more entertainment options. The college is honestly in the middle of nowhere. No wonder that the students do so well- there isnt that much to do! Its location in the mountains of northern Vermont means that it is COLD- however, our tour guide was from Hawaii and said that it was easily adaptable to. Midd is definetely known for its languages- they have a language dining hall where each language has a table and a waiter that speaks that language. That is certainly a plus. I'm still applying to Midd, but the visit didnt cement it as my top choice.

Dining/Restaurant Recommendations or Comments:

Carol's coffee is cute and has a good selection, but there seems to be a good meal plan on campus. I'm not kidding- the mexican place is not a good choice.
