Visit Activities:

Campus Tour: Yes - I didn't feel that the campus tour helped me very much. The guide was nice, but she didn't tell me anything I couldn't have learned from the Northwestern website.

Classroom Visit: Yes - I attended a first-year journalism class. The professor was knowledgeable, but the class wasn't the most thrilling time of my life. However, this is also because it was four hours long.

I was absolutely amazed at how nice everyone was. Every single person I met shook my hand and said it was nice to meet me, and they treated me like a friend five seconds after I met them.

Downtown seems to be centered around the University, so the atmosphere is fantastic.

Campus Visit Notes for Northwestern University

Visit Description:

I am interested in majoring in journalism, so I was paired with another journalism student to stay the night with. She was hilarious and so much fun! I went to a (sort of boring) class with her and she pointed out Tom Hanks' (or was it Tom Cruise's?) son to me. He's also a journalism student. Then, we went around "fliering" the ground with fliers about the Tom's Shoes club she was starting on campus. You definitely should check out all the fliers on the ground--it's a unique sight!

We went to eat after that, and then we spent the next few hours in PARC hanging out with her friends. As nerdy as this sounds, I felt so at home there. Everyone was very accepting. There were tons of parties going on that we were invited to, but we just stayed in the dorms and hung out with some (mostly) sober students. I had a blast. If you get the chance to stay overnight, definitely go for it!

And by the way, don't be alarmed if they call you a "prospie"--it just means "prospective student."

Dining/Restaurant Recommendations or Comments:

On campus, go to the Great Room. It's Harry Potter-esque with a modern twist, and the food is delicious!

Other Comments (Transportation, local attractions, parking, etc.):

Parking is pretty bad, but there are two inexpensive parking garages right off campus. Chicago is also a short train ride away, so if you haven't been, definitely make the trip!
