Campus Visit Notes for Oxford University

Visit Description:

So Oxford has an interesting system of colleges. It has several colleges, each college provides residence, food, and that stuff. Each college will have people from several subjects. For ex. I could be in a college where I am studying Biology but the guy who lives next door, studies Political Science, or English Literature. Though some colleges generally have more people from a particular major than another. There's another thing, you don't study in the colleges. You have to go to the department of the subject that you're studying. For example, I'll be going to the Biology department of Oxford for classes if I choose to study biology. Another thing Oxford has is that each College has people who are fellows of the University. They will basically give you 'homework' and will basically know you through and through. They will be your guides, your mentors etc. So if you don't get something in class, you go to them. There are several colleges, when you apply to Oxford, you can only apply to 1 College. So its dependent quite a lot on luck, whether they have a space for the major you applied for. Even if another college had space for that, they'll reject you.
