Memphis certainly has areas to avoid, but as long as you know where you're going you have nothing to worry about. Lots of great opportunities in the city, must not miss out on these.

Campus Visit Notes for Rhodes College - Memphis

Visit Description:

I visited after being notified of admission via phone. I visited the so-called "Scholarship Symposium," supposedly for their top scholarship winners. As a baseball recruit, I came the night before for my baseball recruiting visit as well.

The day was very well organized and because of the many information sessions and the like I ended my day knowing more about Rhodes than any other school I visited. I toured campus, met other students, and learned about many opportunities Rhodes had to offer me. What sticks out is being brought into the library by my tour guide and him describing it as "the centrifuge of nerd-dom."

I was asked a prospective major and an interview was arranged with a member of that department. I interviewed with Professor Wirls of political science. We instantly had something to talk about when I noticed his Chicago Cubs shrine in his office, as I'm a lifelong Chicago White Sox fan. We had some playful banter and he proceeded to give me a new and just as satisfying perspective of Rhodes.

When I got into our car to head back home, my parents and I all looked at each other and without even speaking we all knew that this was the place.

Other Comments (Transportation, local attractions, parking, etc.):

$200 of transportation cost was actually reimbursed by admissions.
