Visit Activities:

Information Session: Yes - Was very helpful in getting a feel of the school from the administration's POV. Was in a room around a table, so it was very small, but nice because it was more personal.

Campus Tour: Yes - Sophomore gave the tour. Very informative--knew the answers to all of our questions. We also met with current students while we walked around who were very friendly and helpful as well.

Even when a girl showed up late to an info session, the woman in charge of it was very gracious and didn't mind having to repeat some points. At the Admissions Office everyone was very friendly.

Appearance of Campus:

Beautiful and well maintained even in the summer. Though they were doing some renovation on the residential houses it didn't cause problems for those walking around campus.

Building/Facilities Maintenance/Cleanliness:

As they were doing some updates here and there as it is summer, everything was still easy to access. The buildings that were not being updated were nice.

Dormitories:

As they don't have dorms--they have houses where each student gets a room (freshman have doubles or in some cases, triples). The room we saw was rather large compared to dorms and was easy to ac

I loved it. Everything about the visit was great and gave me a great sense of what Smith offers and what the students are like and how happy they were there.

Parking was a bit of a pain, but wasn't hard to find some parking a few streets away if you are willing to do some walking. Very close to a main street full of shopping and dining.

Was a great little college town with many shops and non-chain restaurants. Most things seemed affordable and accessible to a college student. Very livable.

Campus Visit Notes for Smith College

Visit Description:

I really enjoyed my visit to Smith. I felt like I was able to walk around the campus without getting annoyed stares from current students (like I have had at other universities). And by the way, there were actually quite a number of students on campus, despite being summer. So students do seem to take advantage of summer courses. The students there that I met were very happy to be at Smith and encouraged me to apply. The campus was gorgeous and the day I went the weather was amazing. The Admissions Office was very nice and everyone there was helpful with any question I had. The tour guide, a current student, was very friendly and everyone we met while on the tour was nice. She made us all felt relaxed and excited to be on the campus, which some college tour guides don't do well. As it was summer, it was a bit more relaxed then I suppose it is during the school year (as I have year from other CCers). But it had a very nice friendly feel that I liked. I could definitely see myself going to Smith.

Hotel/Lodging Recommendations or Comments:

Didn't stay in Northampton, stayed in another town about half an hour away as I was also touring other colleges in the area. But some people also on the tour did stay in the area and did like it

Dining/Restaurant Recommendations or Comments:

We ate at a small pizzeria on a large street near campus (I can't recall the street's name). It was very good and affordable. Most dining options off campus seemed affordable.

Other Comments (Transportation, local attractions, parking, etc.):

Saw the bus go around but I don't know if it was the bus to the other colleges in the consortium or one just for the town. Everything around the campus--shops, dining, etc seemed in walking dist
