Information Session:
Yes - Gave a lot of information of the school it was very interesting. They threw a huge show for the admitted students event it was actually really cool. Really instructive overall.
Campus Tour:
Yes - Didn't really get much of a tour untill I left the group and went to my school I was accpeted into myself (Maxwell) once I did that though the visitors department in the school and its students h
Overnight Visit:
Yes - Stayed at the Crowne Plaza in Syracuse only about a mile and half away from the campus. It was pretty nice loved the staff. Definitely recommend it. Syracuse itself sucks though except for it's b
Campus:
Friendliness/Courtesy of Students:
5 - Excellent
Everyone that talked to me was extremely nice. Even before I was going to the school for the admittance event, I messaged a random person who went to the school on Facebook and she was a great help.
Friendliness/Courtesy of Staff:
5 - Excellent
Same as the student's but even more. They would answer every question I had and if they didn't know they would go on an adventure to find the answer for me, and of course they always found i
Appearance of Campus:
5 - Excellent
Beautiful campus I went on a very nice day so my answer might be a little biased, but it was one of the most amazing campuses I have ever seen. The architecture of the buildings are spectacular.
Building/Facilities Maintenance/Cleanliness:
4 - Very Good
Everything is very clean and nice until you come to the dorms. They are pretty shitty unless you are a freshman and get placed into Ernie Davis or one of the remodeled ones.
Dormitories:
3 - Good
Some of them are very good and some are not so much. My dorm as a transfer is South Hall and it is pretty bad, not looking forward to it at all. But, Ernie Davis is probably the nicest dorm.
Security/Safety:
4 - Very Good
Very good I would constantly see DPS walking around. They also come pick you up after 8 if you need assistance. Also there are buses at every stop every 10 min. Overall they should be good.
Overall Campus Impression:
5 - Excellent
I loved the campus and school and everything about it. I can not wait to attend Syracuse for fall of '12.
Off-Campus:
Area Immediately Around Campus:
1 - Poor
Very poor town with a high crime rate. You really get to know how bad a town is by talking to the taxi drivers of the town. Just stay out of the town unless you are with a friend, especially for girls
City/Town/Community:
3 - Good
I give it a Good rating because the city is beautiful and they have a good amount of nice bars and decent places to eat with a nice big mall. Everyone is friendly I talked to, but the crime is bad.
Campus Visit Notes for Syracuse University
Visit Description:
I went to the college on April 20 (yes 4/20), and it was an amazing day. The weather was 80+ degrees out and it was lovely. There was an admitted student's event that was pretty much just being held to convince people to join the school, you can tell because they spent sooooooo much money on it.
We went to the student services are where we were greeted by nice students and checked in. There was free coffee, orange juice, and donuts for everyone. Then we sat down in the auditorium or something I guess and there was a nice show with an admitted students video followed by the Dean of Admissions speech (which was kind of boring).
After that we each broke up in to the school we were all accepted to, for my case it was the Maxwell School of Art's and Sciences. There we got to meet a few professors and students in the school where we can ask questions about the academics and such. Then all the future students and parents are broken up and the future students go with actual students into another room and the parents stay with the professors. As a student I do not know what my parents did so I can not answer that side, but pretty much on my side we got to ask any questions we liked with out our parents over our shoulders about the academics and such.
After all that we had lunch at the dome which was very nice. There was a nice little trivia thing and a lot of the clubs at the schools had booths you can go see and the food wasn't half bad.
After that you receive a booklet that tells you specific things and where to go for them. Like I am a transfer student and at 2pm there was a special event for me. Also they had dorm tours and campus living and honors programs and so much more.
Overall by the end of the day I was finally able to make my decision to come to Syracuse.
Hotel/Lodging Recommendations or Comments:
Go to the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Syracuse. Very nice staff, nice rooms. Food at the hotel sucks but go out in to town for some food. Call for the shuttle to pick you up form the airport, save you $30.
Dining/Restaurant Recommendations or Comments:
Didn't go to many places, overall the food wasn't amazing it was pretty dull. Everyone recommends Dinosaur BBQ I guess, but when I went there it tasted like Armadillo Willies.
Other Comments (Transportation, local attractions, parking, etc.):
Taxi there is very weird not like in a big city where every taxi looks the same. Everyone here pretty much has there own car. But, you can pretty much walk all over campus but not the town.
