Campus Visit Notes for University of California-Santa Barbara

Visit Description:

UCSB was amazing. I cannot stress how beautiful the campus was. The university itself, the town around it, and the drive there were all gorgeous.

The tour guides were very friendly and definitely seemed like people I could see myself hanging out with. However there was not much diversity. There were mostly white people, a few asians, and barely any indians. I am indian myself and to me this is not an issue but I know it is to some.

They have a really cool library. It's 8 stories tall, and you have to be quieter on each level up. On the bottom are mostly the study groups that are talking and discussing and on the top level you literally cannot make any noise.

They talked about a program offered to students called CLAS where students can go to get help with classes, which I've heard is actually very popular and useful. They also talked about perks about the honors program. Before my visit I was not interested in it, but after the tour guides talked about it I am now seriously considering it.

There were a lot of bikers and also a lot of skaters. The paths were all paved and I was told that skating is allowed everywhere that walking is. There are also some special designated skateboarding paths alongside the bike paths for people that don't want to be skating around people. I plan on getting around with a longboard so it was nice finding out that UCSB is a completely skateboard friendly environment.

Overall, UCSB is a great school. I really loved it when i visited and i could definitely see myself there.

Other Comments (Transportation, local attractions, parking, etc.):

Finding parking was not a problem unlike some other places. There are buses that transport students around the town for free.
