Visit Activities:
Information Session:
No - We were late and missed it.
Campus Tour:
Yes - We toured the campus with about 10-13 other families. Our tour guide was a nice senior who was very helpful and energetic.
Campus:
Friendliness/Courtesy of Students:
4 - Very Good
The students were helpful and friendly...once you approached them. Some didn't go out of their way to interact with you, but once you made the first move they were very curteous and nice.
Friendliness/Courtesy of Staff:
4 - Very Good
Appearance of Campus:
5 - Excellent
I liked the campus feel, and it's very pretty. It has a historic, almost colonial kind of feel in some areas, but it's obvious they've taken pains to make their facilities pretty up to
Building/Facilities Maintenance/Cleanliness:
4 - Very Good
Dormitories:
3 - Good
The dorm we saw was one of their older, smaller dorms. It was a double, and was very cramped for space. Also, there was no AC, so it was very stuffy and muggy. Other dorms are supposed to be better.
Security/Safety:
5 - Excellent
Security appeared to be very tight. Student's UDel IDs will only give them access to their own residence halls, there's emergency blue lights, and doors only open for a certain amount of tim
Overall Campus Impression:
4 - Very Good
It's big campus, but it doesn't necessarily feel that way when you're there. And, maybe this was just because it was in summer, but everything was very at-ease, calm.
Off-Campus:
Area Immediately Around Campus:
4 - Very Good
There were a lot of shops and restaurants around the campus on Main street, and small residential neighborhoods. We got a little confused with the streets and directions, but quickly found our way.
City/Town/Community:
3 - Good
I thought it was all pretty quaint. I was hit on by some older men in trucks, which was a little sketchy, but I didn't really care. Apart from that, the town was okay, but seemed a little boring.
Campus Visit Notes for University of Delaware
Visit Description:
Overall I liked it. The town is nice and laidback, and the people seemed nice. And I did the campus and just the general feel. Although UDel isn't my first choice, that's only because I'm more of a city girl and work better in a fast-paced environment, not because of anything actually wrong with the school. But I will say, that by visiting, I could see why UDel has somewhat of a "party school" reputation; the town/community around it doesn't seem to really cater to college students, so it kind of felt like the college had to do it by themselves (cheap movies, concerts, comedians, etc). In the end, I still like and respect the school, and I can see myself being content there.
